How quickly do you think the WDW half will sell out?

I guess that is my whole question! :goodvibes Does anyone know when the half marathon sold out last year?? I see that they are accepting a smaller number of runners this year so I am wondering how quickly I need to register? I still have a few details (and friends!) I am trying to work out!!!

I did Goofy this year so I can't remember how long it took for the half to fill up. I just checked the runDisney site and the half is now listed at 51% full.

Running is becoming more popular than ever, the half is already at 51% sold out!

Thanks! I didn't realize you could check how full the event was! Can you point me to where I could see that??? :goodvibes

I am so surprised to see it's already at 51%! Woohoo! I hope all of the runners get registered in time!

Are they accepting less runners this year?

I can only remember last year the Goofy sold out before the half did. Stating that though, I haven't seen numbers sell out this quickly. However I am suprised that Disney would take fewer runners..considering there didn't seem to be issues with holding a race with about 25,000 in it. They appeared to have it all under control....okay excepting for the runners who used the woods as the bathroom...but aside from that...

Yes, there will be less spots this year for the half but not many. I believe I read that it will only be a difference of 2,000 across all races but the half will be the most impacted.

I would imagine that announcement caused a small increase in registrations this week as people were concerned about missing out. I'd just watch the numbers and if it gets to 90% sign up right away. In many past years it took a little while to get to 90% but not long to close out after that. I suspect a lot of people who wait as long as possible see that number and all sign up so they aren't closed out.

I think operationally they can handle it, but they had received a fair number of complaints about the course being over crowded. So far this year, they've announced that they are accepting a smaller number of runners (2000 less overall), they will have more corrals and they are making a larger number of people submit times so that they can more accurately place people in the right corral. All these things seem to be designed to make the race experience better for the runners.

I think the addition of the dopey and the 10k is having a bigger impact on the shorter distances selling out faster.

Wow, I can't believe the half is already over 50%. I'd sign up now if you have the means and you want to do it!

I can't tell you how many times I've seen people on this site who waited too long to register for a race, and then were kicking themselves for waiting. It might sell out quickly, it might take a few months ... you never know. Those registration numbers can jump suddenly.
