Hi guys. I'm going to start using my Disney Visa to pay for regular household items etc in order to accumulate the points. However, I'd like to pay it off asap- I don't trust myself to wait until the end of the month.

My question is- how quickly can I apply payment and still receive the points for the purchase? If I use it for the house payment can I pay it off the same day?

No answer but I'm curious too. It never occurred to me to use it for the mortgage or other bills.

I wonder if I use it to pay online bills from chase.com if I get points too?

No answer for either poster but I am also curious.

One suggestion...how about you write the check the day you charge something then don't send it in until the statement comes. At least then you have deducted the amount from your account and are less likely to spend it.

Once it posts go ahead and pay it. I make several payments a month on mine. Only problem I have run into is if I make more than 1 payment a week, they don't release the credit back right away (once pymt posts). I have in the past called Disney to ask and we 3 way called my bank to verify $$ was for pymt was withdrawn from my account and they released it. At that point, I only had a 1k limit, so I wanted to put more on it, so I needed to do that. Now it's higher, so it's not as much of a big deal.

I typically pay mine 1x per week now and haven't run into it in a while. I checked and we can't do it with my mortage :headache:

DH just had a brilliant suggestion. We carry a balance on our account so to avoid raising our avg daily balance I am going to make a payment to my CC the day before the auto pymt goes through.

Ex. my elec bill is $110/mo. I pay it online now but will switch to earn Disney points. Elec bill is due on the 25th. On the 24th I will pay 110 on the CC from my cheking. On the 25th the elec bill will be paid from my CC. I will then also make my normal CC pymt on the due date.

This way I only pay interest on the same avg daily balance. It doesn't increase when the Elec bill pymt is made.

It depends on each vendor on when the batch their accounts. So you might go to Walmart on Thursday and not see it posted until Tuesday, and you might go to Target on the same day and see it on Friday. Once it is posted on your account you can pay it.

This is what I do because I am also using my Dis Visa card for everything I can right now. I pay it every Friday. For example, if I go to the store and use it, I come home and take that money out of the checking out, not literally, but I set is aside (on paper) I do that everytime I swipe the card. So when Friday rolls around I log on, see what the balance is (it's usually less than what I have set aside because not everything has posted yet) and I pay it. It just helps if I have 1 set day each week that I remember.."oh today I need to pay the card". Then I'm getting points & not paying interest. :thumbsup2

I hope I can pay the house payment with it...I just assumed...but I'll double check. Right now I use online banking for everything. Paying through the visa will be a bit more work but if that adds up to FREE money for our next trip- I'm in!

You can pay it off as soon as the charges post - BUT you don't get the points from it until your cycle closes. We found this out last year when we paid it off early in hopes of getting the points sooner for our trip. The points weren't showing up in our account online so I called, & was told there's no way to earn the points early, you have to wait til the statement date. There may be a way around this but I didn't pursue it any further.

As others have said, you can make multiple payments per month. However, I highly suggest you make these payments online as that snail-mail is rather slow, insecure, and can cost you a few bucks per month in postage. :)

First of all, be very careful with credit cards. You need to make sure you have strong enough discipline to treat it like cash and keep it in alignment with your bank account. There is also a phycological element you have to fight with plastic, which is simply the ease of "swiping it." Many people will simply spend more when they can swipe as opposed to handing out cash.

If and only if you have this discipline, then use it on a regular basis. I would recommend you pick one day a week (Sunday or whatever) where you pay off your weekly balance. That way, you limit your potential to overspend if you only pay it off monthly.

To close, let me again say this: over the course of the first month or two, watch your spending very carefully. If you start breaking your budgets or using more than you normally do. Stop immediately! You can very easily negate or exceed any "bonus dollars" you get. Honestly, that's why they have such programs in the first place, because that 1% to 3% they "give you" will more than be made up (by most people) in the extra spending.

If you can "play the system," then go for it. If not, then cut it up immediately or lock it away in your safe to only use for certain purchases.

Good luck!

You generally can use a credit card to pay bills - utilities, insurance, etc. Things that are loans - mortgages, car loans, credit cards, etc - cannot use another loan (Disney credit card) to make payments.

Why don't you set up a separate savings account? Every time you make a purchase, transfer the money from checking to savings. Earn interest on it for the billing cycle, then pay the bill when due.

My card only allows me to make a payment every three days. So you couldn't charge on it every day and go in and pay it off as you do it. FYI!

Make you won't be charged any fees from your electric company, gas company, etc for using a credit card. Our companies either don't accept credit cards or charge a 3% fee (which makes charging it for points actually cost money).

When I use my Disney Visa card I write it down in my check book register and subtract it and just pay it as soon as the statement comes out. So just one time a month I've already subtracted on paper from my checking account pay it with online billpay and still no interest and only have to mess with it once a month.

We are also charged a fee to charge our electric and gas. Even the trash bill has a $3 fee.

I would be shocked if you could pay the mortgage with a credit card.

But yo can make a payment online whenever you want. If yo are making a lot though, I'd watch very closely to make sure everything credits correctly.

You can make a payment every 3 days I believe.

I also do not think you can use your visa to pay your mortgage or any other form of credit.

You get points based on your purchases, not your balance. So you can charge $500 and then pay it off immediately and you will still get the $5 points.

We pay all of our regular monthly expenses that we can with our Disney Visa. I keep track on paper how much we're charging and I pay it once a week also. It makes me feel better paying a little each week than one big giant sum at the end of the month (even though it's the same I know). I figure why pay it directly from our checking account when we can get something out of it? As another poster said though, we don't put more than we can pay off on our Disney card.

The only things outside purchases that I can put on my Chase cards (I have many - Disney, SW, etc.) is cell phone, cable, and Internet. Gas and electric in my area charges a fees and makes it not worth it. I literally charge everything -- even a hot chocolate at Dunkin Donuts. I NEVER carry cash but I'm disciplined and pay it off every month. I can and do make multiple payments in any one cycle all online. While Chase gets no interest from me they get tons from the vendors I frequent:)

We carry a balance on our account so to avoid raising our avg daily balance I am going to make a payment to my CC the day before the auto pymt goes through.

This way I only pay interest on the same avg daily balance. It doesn't increase when the Elec bill pymt is made.
It is better to pay cash for your purchases and not get points, compared with using the credit card and paying interest in order to earn points.

Still better is paying off the balance fast enough to not have to pay interest.
