How quickly are people able to use there membership after they buy? In other words if someone were to buy into SSR in the next week or two, could they stay there on the new points this fall?

There have been tales of people who have bought while on property and then immediately used points to go 'Home'. As to your question, once you are officially a member, as long as you have points, you're within your booking window, and there are rooms available, you can reserve. In this case, odds are probably good for a fall ressie at SSR&S.

Your Guide will let you know. Most times it is within a matter of hours of tellng your guide you want to buy and how many points. When I did an add-on this February, I was able to make a ressie on the new points two hours later. I have heard tell of others who went thru their guide to get ressies within minutes of signing up.

This really is one of the really great advantages of buying direct from DVD.

When you buy from Disney, you can call for a reservation as soon as you sign the purchase agreement and put down your deposit. However, all reservations are subject to availability and your first stay must take place after your building opens.

So, if you bought SSR from Disney in the next week or so, could you stay this fall on points? Most likely, yes - as long as the building listed on your contract opens before the dates of your stay. (You don't have to stay in that building or even at SSR, though). Your chances of getting a fall stay are better if you are open to staying at any DVC resort.

We are living proof of this. We were staying on site for a Sunday through Friday night trip. We paid cash on Sunday and Monday night. Purchased DVC on Tuesday after our tour and used our points for the rest of our stay. Our Guide really made it happen for us. It allowed us to use what we thought would be the amount we were going to pay for our room for our last four nights as our down payment.
