Earlier this week, I announce at the dinner table that I will be flying down to EPCOT for the day, Saturday...eat at the F&G food kiosks, pick up my AP F&G Festival print and fly home... Whose coming with me?

DH pretty quickly said no...he has been doing a lot of flying lately and just wants to stay home. DS (13) and DD (11) offer no response.

Last night I pushed them for an answer and they said they were going to stay home!

What the heck is up with this?!? Who turns down a day in Disney.

I'm still going, just trying to decide if I am going alone or inviting a friend to tag along.

Trying to put myself in a preteen's sneakers. Get up early. On a weekend. Drive to the airport. Deal with airport security and sitting at a gate hoping the plane's on time. Sitting on a crowded plane for how long? Getting out of MCO and sitting in a taxi to Epcot. Arriving at what time? Following you around while you do your thing with the F&G kiosks. Will there be time for any rides? How much time in the park before you turn around and reverse the process to get back home? I'd stay home, too.

Yeah, i think i'd have to agree. We're within driving distance (less than 2 hours) and rarely want to deal with the hassle of getting up early, driving up there, being in the park, then driving all the way back, getting to bed late, etc. I can't imagine trading out my own car for a plan seat and a trip through airport security. No thanks.

God I would love to be able to go by myself! Have to agree with the PP though, that's a lot of traveling for one day! Depending on where you are of course. But I can't imagine it's that close if you're flying. Enjoy the trip either way! I wish you on-time flights and speedy security lines! :wizard:

That sounds like a very busy day and while I would generally go anytime someone gave me the chance, I think that it just wouldn't be enough time and I would feel slighted and sad to have to leave after so little time there :( But hey - go for it! Go solo if you want!

Funny story: years ago, I was at the Springfield, Illinois airport (a little closet of an airport) waiting for a friend to arrive, and I saw my friend Doug walk by. Doug is an American Airlines pilot, and he was wearing his AA employee badge. I asked him if he was on his way to work - nope, he said. Being an AA employee, he can walk on to any AA or affiliate airlines flight in the country, as long as there is a seat. He said he was hankering for In & Out Burger, so he was flying to Chicago to catch a flight to L.A., was going to take a taxi to In & Out Burger, get his munch on, then figure out how to get home.

In their defense, we were just in Disney at the end of April for 6 days but two of those days were tied up with my niece's wedding.

And we are an hour from the airport so I will leave the house before 4AM for a 6:15 flight.

I will fly home at 8:50 so I would have to leave by around 6 ish.

But, OTOH, this is my adventure family. We have flown to Chicago for the day. We have flown to Ohio for ice cream (Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream - worth the flight)

Alas, I now have a tween and a teen.

Yep, that's us...the perks of DH working for an airline.

LOVE THIS! Have family with airline pilot for 30 years. They NEVER travel or utilize their options. Every time I think about it I just can not wrap my head around it. They have always had high income, access to so many hotel discounts and honestly other than one kid traveling to Europe with a school group when younger the kids have never left the country. Pilot is international and spouse has met him in Europe ONCE. No interest in traveling here either. We would be burning up the airways. And yet their friend with 4 kids has taken them ALL OVER the world and they are still fairly young. :goodvibes I love hearing all their stories.

To OP: DS would jump at it with me, the rest probably not. And since you are going to Epcot ..... and they are teens ..... I get it. We are going down next weekend for an event and DS is going to run in and out of Epcot for his print, maybe while I sit at DS and have a drink.

Wow! Adventurous or just crazy :duck:?
How long is the flight? Seems like a crazy, busy, hectic day for anyone.
Kudos to you for having the means and energy to pull that off.
Where is Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream. I want some.

Sounds like a dream to me!

I can't imagine not traveling if I've got the resources. It's my dream to just get up and travel the world. I heard all of these stories of people doing just that and it just seems more like a pipe dream than reality for me. One day, though, one day. Just gotta win the lottery.

If my mom asked me if I wanted to hop on a plane to disney for a day when I was a kid I totally would have done it. But I liked anything that would take me out of my normal routine. Nowadays I'd say no cause of pet sitting.

"What the heck?" is right! I don't know if my kids (12 and 16) would do it, but sounds great to me! Have fun! :thumbsup2

My kids are 9 and 11 and would JUMP at this... doesn't matter that we were there in Apr for a race and are going back in Aug. I think you'll have a lot of takers on here...! :)

Shoot, I'd take a day trip to someplace I don't even care to go to, like Salt Lake City or Columbus or whatever, just because I like flying!
