My DH rides the bus to work from a park and ride lot. This bus picks up at 3 different lots, then goes downtown. My DH gets on at stop 1.

"Fred" gets on at stop 2. Fred is completely blind. He waits in his car with his wife until all the other passengers have loaded, then his wife walks him on the bus and seats him in the seat behind the bus driver (so he can hear his stop called).

The passengers who ride this bus know which seat Fred sits in, so they make sure to keep it open. But occasionally someone who does not usually ride this bus will take Fred's seat. The other passenger's will politley let the occupant know that Fred will be sitting there, and the newcomer will move.

Can you see where this is going?

Yesterday "JA" (hmm, I wonder what that stands for) gets on the bus at stop 2 and sits in Fred's seat. He is politely informed that Fred is going to be getting on, told him the situation, could he please give up his seat. JA then starts cussing and yelling at the other passengers, "you give up your bleeping seat" etc.

Fred ended up getting a seat, but further back on the bus.

Not what kind of person do you have to be to not give up your seat to a BLIND PERSON!

Obviously someone who got up on the wrong side of the bed or they have some severe anger management issues.

Wow! Sounds like that guy was having a bad day... or maybe he's always like that. Hope not!

That got me thinking about our adventure at Chuck E Cheese last week.

DD was playing skeeball on a broken machine, and got no tickets so we said that she could wait for the next one to open up. There were only three working and she was standing there waiting while a kid played on one and two adults played on the other two. One of the adults finished and she started to walk up to it, and she told my DD "no, we are just switching", to which I responded, "She has been waiting here and all the other machines are broken." to which the woman said "too bad". I got mad and basically resorted to humiliating the woman with comments like "well, we will have to wait for this lady to grow up, then maybe you can play..." Nothing worked. They finally walked away when my DH and I made a very vocal scene.

For flamers- we usually do turn the other cheek, but we were so mad that in a restaurant designed to entertain kids an adult could be so rude and ignore basic kindergarten rules by refusing to take turns!

So, yes, people can really stink!

The last few times I was at an adult-type game place (Jillians, Dave & Busters), you could barely play because of the kids hogging everything, so I guess it goes both ways.

That guy actually sounds kind of scary! Why didn't the bus driver step in and tell him to move or leave?

Oh boy, watch out. I posted something similar a few weeks ago about my DD at a children's museum and several people basically had the same attitude as the woman at Chuck E Cheese!

I don't see how one makes the other one right. :confused3

As my DH has found out (he rides the bus to work, too).... not all public transit system bus riders are mentally stable.

Actually, if so many people on the bus knew Fred, it would seem to me that he doesn't need a reserved seat as long as someone lets him know when he reaches his stop.

Of course, JA was still a jerk.

I don't understand this? What goes both ways? :confused3

Well, just because kids are rude to adults sometimes doesn't make it okay for adults to be rude to kids. Besides, in your example, it's still adults being rude. The kids' parents should realize that they've taken their darling children to a place geared toward adults, and if they are behaving inappropriately, they should make them move.

What a real jerk! Maybe one of the regulars from stop #1 could sit in Fred's seat to "reserve" it for him until he gets on the bus so this wouldn't happen again or the driver could rope the seat off until Fred gets on.

It kind of surprises me it isn't reserved for the disabled like Fred :( or that the bus driver didn't ask the man to move. He should have been removed for being vulgar.

They should make Fred a reserved seat. What a loser, lol. C'Mon move your boot to the back.

It just goes to show how mean spirited some people can be which is a such a shame. Hate to say this but I saw the same thing go on even on the buses at WDW. younger healthier people not giving up their seat especially at the end of the day to eldery folks or to to mother's with very small children who could be smashed between people while standing. I ended up with a lot bruises on my arms after our trip from saving DD from falling on the buses. Some people are thoughtful and some aren't.

As far as the woman at the Chuckey Cheeses. She was as ignorant as it gets. And yes the jerk on the bus should have been asked to exit the bus.

Busses and other mass transit around here have signs very clearly stating the the first few seats are reserved for the elderly and disabled. IMO, the bus driver didn't do his job. (& yes, "JA" describes the person perfectly!)

I have a son with special needs and you would be shocked at some of the stories I could tell you.

What a jerk!

I use to ride the Minneapolis city bus while in college. Almost everyday there was some sort of scene. There are some scary people out there! We once even had the police come on board and escort a man off because he was going so crazy.

The worst though is when creepy guys sit next to you and want to know what stop is yours. :earseek: It's happened to me more than once!
