My Grandfather was a plumber -so I started working pretty young. I would work some weekends and most of the summer with him starting at around 8. And the pay wasn't so good either....

14 outside of the home. Younger than that I did filing and answered phones for my parents business from home. I expected my kids to get a job whether we financially needed them to or not.

16. My Mom put the paper in front of me with a bunch of jobs circled in it. My first job was selling hot dogs from a trailer in a supermarket parking lot.

I was 16 and it was at a cafeteria. I soon found a job at Whataburger and it was heavenly in comparison.

17. I was in the COE (Cooperative Office Education) program my senior year of high school which enabled me to leave school at 10am and go to work. I worked as a clerk in an insurance office. I was very fortunate in that they only picked 25 students for the program. I actually didn’t have to be at work until noon and the office was closed on Wednesdays so it was pretty nice.

16 at the local library. Before that I just did babysitting. My kids started working at 14. They came up with the idea and as long as the hours did not interfere with school and sports, they could work. They had to get work permits from the school too.

Not counting earlier things like cutting lawns or shoveling snow, I was 13 when I had my first steady job. A couple of hours after school each weekday, and all day Saturday, and of course more during the summer. Later on some high school extracurricular activities did cut into this during some seasons.
