OUr first house?

For our first house I was 28yo, so this was, um, quite a few years ago (1989). It was a single family house and I think we bought it for just under 100K. It was in Texas, though, and we had sticker shock when we moved to Maryland 3 years later and bought a house here for a lot more (and that was before the housing explosion here).

I was 19 years old, 3BR townhouse.

Oh, and it was below 100K, but this was way back in 1980!

I was 25 and my husband was 28 when we purchased our home after having lived in a couple of apartments after getting married. It is a single family home in Maryland and we paid 139,000 in 2000.

It was just under 80,000 4 bedroom cape cod house on a corner lot. We're still here but hopefully will be moving.

That was over 20 years ago.

DH & I just sold our house in Orange County, CA for $739K and moved to Moreno Valley and bought a big, beautiful new home for less money.

I always advise young people to save enough for a down payment and closing costs and start with whatever you can. Equity builds fast.

I can't believe how affordable some of the houses are that you guys have purchased. A down payment alone 20% is at least $160,000 here. I love it here, but it's no way we can get a house anytime in the next 6 years.

To the OP: Come to Iowa We have plenty of affordable homes. I am so glad that I am here. Most of our friends own their homes. House payments are cheaper than rent.

We bought our first home at 23. It was a 2 bdrm ranch fixer-upper, ~700 sq ft, for $90,000 (in a highly desirable area near university campus, made good $ on this one).

We bought our second home at 25. It is a 3 bdrm ranch, ~1000 sq ft, for $100,000, but in a non-university town.
