How old were you when you joined DVC??

I am 38 and DW is 31. We just purchased in Nov.

As many have said here and in your other thread....only you and DH know what is right in your situation. If it is right for you then go for it!! One thing is for sure you will enjoy your accomodations!

I agree, and in my mind I am oh mid to late 30's, but I feel like a lot of people are kind of passing me off as you should just wait you are only 23 and there is plenty of time for dvc in the future, just vacation normally until you are and whatnot, but I feel like I should live in the now and get it now. The future isn't promised and I want to start enjoying the dvc now while I can, with just me and my husband before I wake up and realize that I have kids and its not about us having fun together it is about us having fun with the kids. I want to enjoy it both ways.

I just feel judged for being young and wanting to finance and I feel like I am the only one wanting to finance.

Sorry for the rambling but I totally agree that age is what you make of it.

If you want to buy DVC and finance.....DO IT....

Later down the road if finances are a hardship......rent your points...

Only you can know if you can afford....the monthly payments....and
the yearly dues....If you can....
Go for it.....why not finance.....everything is financed these days....

While of course it is better to buy everything in life in cash upfront....
thats not the way life works most of the time.
follow your heart....hey we could all be dead tomorrow;)
Kerri

edit.....Oh to answer you question....I bought at 35.....and added on at 36:)

ACEJKA - My husband and I were both 30 last year when we bought DVC. Well, we financed it too. I used to feel judged sometimes by people for financing my DVC, but I got over it. I had the option of using an equity line of credit from my house, but that too will be paid off in 9 years so I thought it was in our best interest to just use Disney to finance. It has proved to be a great idea for us. Also, I am on the verge of giving birth in February, and I've been off work since I became pregnant for the most part. I help run our family's auto repair business that has been around for almost 30 years. Luckily, I was still able to receive salary as normal, but if I hadn't we still would have been ok. Think about your budget and if you can do it and YOU feel comfortable with it, then go for it. Financing may not be for everyone, but I have never been one to save 25k. Good luck with your decision! I'm taking my first trip home this May to a 3 br GV with my family - Mom, step dad, real dad, step mom, two brothers, two friends, my husband and my 3 month old son - i couldn't ask for a better opportunity!

DH and I were 45 when we bought in 2000. We had wanted to buy in the very beginning, but life got in the way (DH got laid off right after we had made the decision to buy the first time), so we had to wait. Only regret is that we weren't able to jump in at the beginning.

Oh, and even though we waited, we financed our purchase. Our financial decisions (and yours too) are nobody's business but your own. If you feel good financing, then do it.

OP, I was 35 when we bought, and DH was 37. But we DID finance and fail to see all the hoopla or negativity over financing.

We paid it off in five years, and treated like a car payment. And all the while, we were having GREAT DVC vacations....

That's what a lot of people fail to understand. If you're going to be going frequently the Disney anyway, you might as well be paying off your DVC than throwing money renting a room.

If you can comfortable afford the payments, then you'll have the benefit of a lot of great vacations.

Hint: It's even better if you pay it off before you have kids. That way, if one of you wants to cut back on working full time, you'll STILL be staying in great accommodations even though your income is less.

We bought SSR in '04 (me 33 & hubby 29 yrs.) and we just added on at AKV this summer (me 36 & hubby 32). We financed also as hubby is a banker, so his staff interest rate is ridiculously low. We weren't going to add on until we were done paying SSR this next year, but God blessed us with a baby boy, and we then realized that we would need bigger than a studio as we only thought we would be able to have 1 child when we initially purchased. We cancelled our cash cruise ressie, and applied that money towards our add-on, and used the double Developer points to pay for our cruise. Worked out well all around!

Tiger :)

37 and I am single! I did it for myself because it made me very happy :lovestruc and I am :woohoo: very excited for my first trip home next August!

We are 50 and we bought when we were 42. We financed. All of our prior Disney vacations were financed. Our kids are grown now and we would have missed some amazing vacations had we not just gone ahead and done what we didn't have extra cash lying around for.

Different strokes for different folks. We're happy and financially fine at this point.

I was 50 and DH was 51 when we purchased. That was 11 years ago, and I hope we aren't old "fuddy dudies" yet!

I was 35, we paid cash to maximize the savings. I would have financed if I had to as long as I already owned a home. Owning your own residence, I feel, takes priority. Good luck with your decision:thumbsup2

36, cash (I hate payments of any kind or owing anything). Since I live on the West Coast of Canada and only will make a trip to WDW every other year or so, DH and I were quite happy at a deluxe hotels onsite. Quite frankly, I hadn't even heard about DVC until the last year! The last time we went to WDW we stayed at AKL, it was only 'okay' as we only had one kid. However, now that we have 2 kids to travel with I hate hotel rooms. Even suites are not big enough. After staying in an Intrawest timeshare and having 2 bedrooms, I can't go back to anything smaller. It makes the vacation a REAL vacation, having lots of room, 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. When I started thinking about the Disney trips we planned to have, staying on site in spacious accommodations was the priority -- DVC fit the bill. It wasn't really to save money (although we will), it was more to elevate the type of vacation we could have with the kids. Plenty of memories to build which are priceless.

I'm getting the feeling that it is a lot of people who are a lot older than me and I was just wondering if I was right. I feel a little judged because of my age and wanting to join.

I hope you are getting some much needed encouragement from this thread. Remember you control your own destiny and make your own decisions! There are a lot of people in life willing to stand on the sidelines and second guess everything you do. Wait till you have kids...man talk about the judgements! :rotfl:

We bought when DFi and I were both 50. The coolest thing about turning 50 is you SO stop caring what others think of what you do. If you can learn that lesson earlier that we did, you'll be a lot happier. We listen to so much garbage from others that we love Disney. Who cares?

I was 21 went I bought in 98' and wasnt married yet, and thanks to these boards I was convinced to buy in and also met my DW and never regreted the decision! Cant beat owning a part of Disney via DVC and having a DW who loves Disney as much as I do!
