When did your child move on to a toddler bed? Our daughter just turned two and shows no signs of wanting to move out of her crib. She doesn't climb out, loves bedtime etc.....
I want to keep her in for a while more anyway since i like that she is contained!!!

My older DS was about 20 months when we moved him. He was crawling out and we were worried that he was going to get hurt during one of his late night escape missions :) ! If he hadn't started crawling out, I was fully prepared to leave him in his crib for as long as he wanted. In fact, I'm hoping that my younger DS stays in his crib for a good long while yet!

I know every kid is different, but we moved dd out of her crib and into a twin bed with bed rails around 14 months. She saw her best buddy sleeping in a twin bed and decided that she no longer wanted to sleep in her crib. She screamed and screamed when I put her in her crib one night, and finally I gave up and put her on a futon and she went right to sleep. The next day we ran out and bought her bed and she's been happy sleeping in it ever since. I'll probably move ds out of the crib around 14 months also just because it worked out soo nice with dd.

My dd was 17 months when I moved her from the crib to the bottom bunk of bunkbeds (with big brother who was 3 on top). That's when the daycare started transitioning her from crib to cot at naptime getting her ready for the next class - it was less confusing for her to be out of the crib all of time.

I had to move both of mine shortly after they turned one but they were both climbers. If they were content and not trying to get out like your DD then I would have kept them in until college:rotfl:

Our DS 4 showed no interested in moving out of his crib. Finally at about 2.5 we decided it was time to take down the bedrail (we had a convertible crib). He was in it for about 6 months in the form of a toddler bed and then we gave him his own big boy bed. I'm sure he would've slept in his crib for a lot longer. He never tried to climb out of his bed.

We just got a toddler bed for DS last week and he's 21 months. DS hardly ever used the crib...he preferred sleeping in his play yard. The second we put him in his crib all he would do is jump in it like a trampoline and never get settle down.

We have a convertible crib and I thought if I converted it to the "bed" he would like it better. Since the crib is kinda high off the ground I got a guard rail -he didn't like that either...so I took the guard rail off and it was a bit tough for him to climb in and out because it was a bit high. I piled a bunch of stuffed animals and pillows and such on the floor next to the covnerted crib in case he fell out and he preferred laying on that over the crib.

So we took down the crib and got a toddler bed and he's been great in it. It's low enough for him to climb in and out of easily and the 2nd night he fell out and didn't even notice - he kinda just slid to the floor and kept sleeping.

Many say to go straight to a regular twin bed, but the toddlet bed seems to work well for DS and I think it's a good transistion to a twin bed. Plus their not very expensive and you can use your crib mattress.

My first (now 17!!) was almost 3!! He loved his crib, never climbed, woke in the morning and played with his toys in the crib and went back to sleep.

My second (now 14!) was almost 2. He wanted to be just like big brother and sleep in a bed. We never had "toddler" beds, always twin size with one side against the wall, other with a childs safety rail.

My third (now 4) was 2. I dont think she was quite ready. She rolled around everywhere and it made me really nervous. We put up the rail and surrounded the floor with pillows. She did not want to be in her bed and wanted the crib back. My husband had to finally get it out of the house for her to stop wanting it. We finally got her to go into the bed without a fuss when we moved a TV into her room and let her watch an episode of Blues Clues every night before lights out. She's 4 now, still has the TV in her room, but rarely uses it. She goes to daycare and is quite tired by bedtime...falls asleep as soon as her head hits the pillow!!!

All kids are different!!

all 3 were just about 13 months or so - oldest moved to a cot at daycare at 1 so i figured we could move her at home too and just did the same with the other 2 althought dd#2 was walking to 10 months and trying to climb out of the crib shortly thereafter- we moved them int a twin bed with rails (never had a toddler bed didn't really see the point for one)

We moved my son right around 20 months because we wanted to transition him into a twin bed before his new baby sister came. We didn't want him to feel like a new baby moved in and now he's out his bed. So we moved him a couple months before so his new bed was HIS bed. Then my dd started crawling out of her crib around 18 months old, so we moved her to a toddler at that point.

1st DD was 16 months old and went directly to a full bed with no issue

Now my soon to be 16 month old, would NEVER trust in bed yet. She is a mover and shaker, plus a climber. She is one of those kids that gets into everything, she would destroy her room if she was not in a crib. So I will leave her in the crib, until she probably learns to climb out of it :tilt:

DD started sleeping in her toddler bed at about 15 months. Did not sleep in a crib, but her playpen. She does love her little toddler bed and I don't worry that if she falls out that she will hurt herself.

My DD was 18 months when she went to a toddler bed.....My DS is now 19 months and he has been sleeping in a QUEEN size bed for about 6 months now!!! He wont sleep in anything else!!!!

We moved our DD out of the crib into a twin when she was 20 months. We needed the crib for DS. We moved him out of the crib when he was just over 2 years. It was a big mistake too! He started throwing himself out the crib when he was about 20 months, but I wasn't ready to move him yet to a big boy bed, so I bought a crib tent and that worked wonderfully. After we vacationed and he did well in a regular bed, we decided to make the switch. Well, he stopped napping and at night he'd leave his room. He'd wander around the house at all hours, so we ended up putting a gate up in his doorway to keep him safe, didn't work he would just climb over it, so then we put one of those plastic knob things on his door knob and he figured that out too. We ended up turning the knob around so we could lock him in! It was the only way to keep him from wandering around at night. Thankfully, he's now 3 and doesn't leave his room anymore and if he does, he always comes to get me.

So the moral of the story is, I'd leave your child in the crib as long as you can.:)

DS7 started climbing out of the crib at 6-7 months; his motor skills were way advanced. DH actually caught him falling one night. We started a family bed. He moved to a toddler bed at 15 months, hated it!, and went back to the family bed until shortly before 3. He went to a twin and never looked back.

DS4 never/barely slept in the crib. He had medical issues that required him to be at a 90 degree angle (upright) until 7 months. He just continued to sleep with us until 15 months because he still woke often and needed to be watched until that time. He then went to a twin without issue.

DS2 slept in the crib until about 27 months and then just wouldn't out of nowhere. He never climbed, but he would scream when we put him down. So, he went to a twin. No issues at all. Whatever gets me the sleep I need.

Thanks everyone. I think we will be keeping her in her crib for a while since she likes it so much. I am very surprised that she has not complained at all and still likes it. I guess i shouldn't complain!:rotfl:

I just wanted to give you more inspiration for keeping her in the crib.

DD#1 moved the week that she turned 3. She wasn't climbing out, but I thought it was time. She was kind of tall for her age, too.

With DD#2, she's over 3 1/2 (she'll be 4 in November), and she's still in a crib! My goal is 4 years old. She's very happy in there.

As long as she's not climbing out, I would leave her!

I'm also glad to read the stories! My 18 month old DD LOVES her crib! She has never tried to climb out. She loves to sit and read before bed at night and when she gets up in the morning. We have another one coming in September, and people are always telling me I should make DD move out of her crib and into a "big girl" bed before the baby comes. I don't see the point of that. She's happy and she's contained, so I'm happy. :)

Yes, I agree with you. My DS and DD were about 34 months; almost 3 when we transitioned them. For DS we used a matress on the floor, and DD went straight to the bed with no problems. Both had the bed rail until they were 4. Nither one of them were climbers- they both loved their cribs! Keep 'em in as long as you can ;)

About 21 months...he was not a climber and liked the crib, but we felt it was time and he loves his "big boy" bed.
