We are getting ready for our youngest son's 3rd trip.... He will be one in July.:goodvibes

We took my son when he was about 2 & 1/2. He doesn't "remember" that trip but he does when he looks at pictures. He had a wonderful time while we there, though. He loved the animals at Animal Kingdom, Playhouse Disney Live Onstage and all the free roaming ducks at MK. He slept well in the stroller and we were lucky he just fell asleep when he was tired so we could keep going. People kept saying, "Why are you going now? He won't remember!" but we felt that he (and we) would still have fun at the time, even if he didn't quite remember it. We had a great time!

Just read thru alot of the posts.... just wanted to add my lil bit.

We always hear alot of smack from people for doing so much with our children while they are so young. Here is my take on that....... First, "they want remember it"...... ok they don't remember you kissing them or playing trains in the floor but you do it.......... its fun, they are learning. I think it helps them become who they are.... just as playing at the park or outside. I think it boils down to ....... I will not spend money if they want remember. It always comes back to $$$$$$.

Take that baby ... create memories for you!!!! Let your baby be happy in all the sights and sounds.... its all about stimulation. When looking for child care , why would all the Moms and Dads out there spend so much time in finding someone who will do more than just feed them and change them if they are not going to remember.... they do it because it helps the child become who they are to have toys, games etc.

Basically.... disney will be the best patty cake that baby ever played!!!

Have a ball!!!! Keep on spending on that baby... rather if he remembers it or not..... it all helps them become who they are.

Have a ball!!!!

Took my daughter when she had just turned 3. She had a good time. She was afraid of the costumed characters at first but by midweek, she was giving them hugs. Taking a 18 month old this November, never taken a child that young, hope it goes ok. :cutie:

We took each of our three kids before they were 1. DH and I are both Disney fans and enjoy going. It is a great place to travel with little ones, as Disney caters toward children of all ages. I have friends who aren't really Disney people, so they want to wait until their kids are old enough to appreciate it, since they will be going for the kids.

IMO, if you enjoy Disney and would like to go, definitely go with your 20 month old. You will have a lot of precious memories!

i voted 1 year but technically she was 6.5 months. :) we're planning our next trip for january 2010. she will be 2.5 and we expect our son will be about 6.5 months for his first trip as well - he's due in early july. :) it was an awesome time to travel with her because she was so content to just sit back and watch everything going on, had no fear of things like the dark etc., and napped wherever, whenever. :)

How old was your child when you first took them to Disney? Please explain your answer....trying to decide whether or not to take 20 month old....

It REALLY depends on the child. My dd Olivia was 5, my ds Dante was 2 1/2 and my other ds Wyatt was 18 months. My 18 month old was fine. Still at the age where he would just relax in the stroller and take it all in. My 2 1/2 year old was a nightmare :scared1:

That was last year. We just got back from a trip last week and Dante, who is now 3 1/2 was still the biggest 'problem' if you will....I know it's his personality.

We are going in September when my daughter will be 3, 5 months away from 4. I think any age reasonable if you go with the right expecations. When Kelsey was 20 months I took her to Bush Gardens in Williamsburg and she was too scared to ride any of the kiddy rides. She had a good time running around the dragon land, but wouldn't ride on the rides with my husband or I. Even taking her at 3 I'm not sure how many rides she will do, she is pretty nervous about the dark. Good Luck with whatever you decide

My first went to Disney 2 months before she turned 3. We did this because she was still free! I should add that we snuck down to Disney for an adult trip 6 months before that and left her at home.
Our next went to disney when he was 2 and 2 months. We also snuck down when he was a year and left him home!
Having said that, I am going back 14 days!! This will be my 7 year old's 5th trip and my 3 year old's 3rd trip. We have been back every year and have enjoyed all of it. The first trips the kids didn't do as much but seemed to have a good time taking it all in. We are big travels and they kids have been on many planes, train, and auto trips since they were babies. Travel is fun and we just adapt it to whatever age the kids are. Have a good time!

We are taking our children for their first time in June! :woohoo: They will be 8 and 6.

Our reasons for waiting this long were;

#1 The drive. DH doesn't fly, so we have waited until we felt both the kids and ourselves were able to handle three days in the car coming and three more going.

#2 Work. DH has been working at getting his business off the ground since our DS was 1. It has been 6 long years, and we are now ready to enjoy the payoff!!

#3 Finances (see #2).

I didn't vote because DS was 3 months old when we first visited WDW. We are DVC members, so we visit frequently. We get the occasional 'your child won't remember it so why go?', but we remember and have wonderful pictures as well. :goodvibes

13 months and 25 months and we leave tomorrow at 32 months. One last time before she really cost us tickets, dining plans etc. My only advice if your going to bring a little one is try to stick to your kids schedule. Dont try and do extreme disney. Just slow down and enjoy the moment. :grouphug:

DD was 4 and a half when we took her to WDW. Our DS was 5 months old and we left him home with grandmother. We chose that age because we knew she would remember it more. Our next trip DS will be 4 and DD will be 8. I think this will be a good age for DS to experience his first trip and DD is so looking forward to going back.

I took my son the first time when he was 6, I think it was the perfect age as he was old enough to remember everything he did, and do some of the "older" kid stuff......

All of mine went at 1 yr. of age. My late father owned DVC at OKW from 1992, so we were there every couple of years with him, at least.
