I don't spend NEARLY as much as most people on the DIS here for Christmas and birthdays though! :scared1:

You and me both!. I was shocked when I read that thread and saw that a lot of ppl on dis spend on average $250-$300+ per kid at xmas!! :scared1: There's no way on earth id ever spend that much! Well i shouldnt say never, cause you never know. But its highly unlikely. Lol

Here's a it of irony for you:

DD16 was a "friend of the Easter Bunny" today at a library party for young kids. Yet she still gets a basket from the bunny :lmao:

My mom still does baskets for us and we are 37, 31, and 24. She also does one for our spouses and kids. We usually get candy, lotions for the girls, the kids get some toys and everyone gets a couple gift cards.

For our kids I do a Easter book and some candy. Last year they all got bibles and this year they are getting devotionals. I'm sure my kids like my moms basket better but dh and I try to celebrate what Easter is really about.

I love doing baskets and as long as my kids still enjoy, I will keep doing them. its definitely not Christmas, but do include some outdoor toys...swim goggles, sunglasses, this year I think they might get skim boards. and yes, I do give them something small for valentines day, usually a small box of candy or candy bar and new red sox shirts for the boys, heart shaped pillow or earrings for my dd, that kind of thing.

when they are older, like I said earlier, I would love to do the money in a single hidden egg for each kid that a pp posted about. I really do love that.

I just remembered something. when dh and I were engaged with lived with his mom to save money (paid for the wedding ourselves). easter morning I heard a knock on our bedroom door and I opened it to find this huge basket filled with every oxo utensil made. It was awesome, and oh so thoughtful of my MIL. Its been 16 years and I still think of her fondly when I grab one of them when I'm cooking. Especially when I am wondering if I have something obscure and oh look, I do! :)

When they were grown.
Now I have a grand to make a basket for :)

I think we stopped with the Easter baskets (and Christmas stockings) when my younger daughter was about 11 or 12.

This thread reminded me of something. Over the past 10 years or so, I've noticed pre-made Easter baskets filled with small toys and wrapped in cellophane. Does anyone actually buy these? We never got/gave out toys for Easter, just candy.

The reason I ask if anyone actually buys these is because all the different types of stores (Walmart, CVS, Family Dollar, supermarkets, etc) seem to have 100 of these the week before Easter, and 99 leftover the week after Easter.

I do......when they are 90% off at Target!
