We just got a new fridge, our old one was 24yrs old and still worked. The delivery guys asked DH how old the old one was and when he said 24 yrs they told him the new ones don't last that long that the new ones are only good for about 6yrs. Our old fridge is a whirlpool and since we had such good luck with it we bought another whirlpool.

The one we have now used to be my parents...so I think it is probably over 30 years old. It just started to make this weird noise so I think it's on it's way out. I expect we'll be buying one in the near future. Probably should get one BEFORE this one dies.

The fridge that was left with this house was about 6 years old but I do suspect they didn't take care of it. Luckily it died a quick death about a year later so I was able to get the fridge I wanted---a Kenmore french door, which I love. We've had it for about 7-8 months now & I'm still in love with it.

We got one about a year ago.
The one before that was about 19.
the one in the garage is OLD!!
It was old when we got married 32 years ago. It must be from the 1950s....and it is still going.

19 years old! We speak softly to her and praise her for the good job she's doing. If she can just hang on 3 more years, the next homeowner can have her. Maybe even one of you Disers!!! :teeth:

Purchased in January 2003. So only 3 years old. It's still going strong (as one would hope!), but I agree things don't seem to be built as well anymore. My grandma still has a toaster she received as a wedding gift, I don't think any of our appliances will last that long!

The one in my kitchen is 11 1/2 years old.

The one in my basement is from my parent's old house. It came with the house in 1969--you do the math!!! It is aqua blue and still going strong.

As old as our house, six years. I wouldn't be devistated if I had to buy a new one soon.

8 years old and still looks like the ones you can buy new in the store!

We are trying to decide whether to get a new one for the new house or not.

Our new stainless steel GE fridge (now 2 years old) replaced our
garage GE fridge (15 years old) that replaced our
basement GE (28 years old) fridge.

Ours is 12 years old. I pray over it to every day, I also pray over my stove and dishwasher. But I forgot to pray about the dryer, it died at 11 yrs old.
I hang out clothes from March-November, my dryer looked new yet.

I bought a new Maytag dryer The door hinges look so cheap. The vent is really hard to clean. So I can imagine how cheap the motor and drum must be made.

It was a year old in November. It's a GE profile side by side semi built in.

Ours is a Kenmore (which means that is was made by Whirlpool) and will be 20 years old this September. I am ready to get a new one, but this one is not ready to retire. :(

We bought our house and first fridge in 1985. It lasted a year before the compressor died and had to be replaced. In 1997, we took a two week trip to visit our friend in Belgium. When we got home, it smelled like an animal had died. And that was before we went in the house. Our first fridge was officially dead, 11 years after having a compressor transplant. So much for Kenmore.

We bought a Kitchen Aid replacement fridge in 1997 (for around $1200) and it is still running today. The door has some rust on the inside near the seal, probably because we don't always run the heater that keeps condensation from forming on the door. But otherwise, it seems to be running fine. Of course, I'll probably get home tonight and find out that the darn thing has died.

Ours is a Kenmore, 16 years old! I keep holding my breath. And by the way, every time we go away for the weekend or on vacation, I toss just about everything away in the frig part (just in case); and I nag my family to eat everything they can think of in the freezer part.

My fridge here at the house in Puerto Rico is 4 years old and I have had to call the repair man already 3 times. My fridge at my house in Wisconsin is 22 years old and I have never once had to get anything fixed on it.

It's so funny I saw this thread. Ours is almost 11yrs and is a Whirlpool. I love their products, but, we have an old one in the basement from a friend and don't know how old it is.
So DH thought lets get a new one for the basement. I said no, lets get a new one for the kitchen and put our kitchen one in the basement. Short of it, we bought new seals for the 11 yr old and just put them in. We looked like 2 monkeys trying to play football or something!! :rotfl2:
It did work out fine though. He just told me that he wants to keep a file of all replacment parts :confused3 just in case. I said I'm getting a new fridge before I replace the seals on that thing. He threw away the info!!!
