How old is your oldest kid that you put in a stroller?

I have a 6 year old who hasn't ridden in a stroller in 3 years. That's too old for a stroller, right? But at Disney, is it too old for a stroller? That's a lot of walking.

When we were there in Jan '08, I let my then 6 year olds ride (when the baby wasn't). They get really tired of walking and I see nothing wrong with letting a 6 year old ride and rest their feet for a while. What you might think is too old at home is still certainly o.k. at Disney. You will see a lot of "older" kids riding.

My girls will be 3 and 7 when we go this year and I plan on bringing our Joovy Sit and Stand Stroller for them. We used it on our last trip 2 years ago and loved how easily it handled through the crowds at the parks and that it gave us 'storage space'. We'd rent one but are far too cheap...plus it helps that we are driving so bringing our own isn't a big deal.

I doubt either will WANT us to bring the stroller in the mornings but by mid-day I can totally see them begging to sit in it!!!! Plus...I kind of like having them 'trapped' if we go through crowds.

We are bringing the exact same stroller for my 6 and 3 year old! I normally would never let my 6 year old ride in a stroller, but aside from her getting tired from all the walking (I've heard it can be more than 10 miles a day...that's a lot for grown up legs), it seems like it will be easier to keep track of her in those large crowds if she is in the stroller, just one less thing to worry about I guess.

a 6 year old in a stroller is not weird at Disney at all. :) However, I wouldn't bring a stroller JUST for a 6 year old, if you had one, sure let him ride, but otherwise just take breaks when needed because 90% of the time you're going to be pushing an empty stroller.

I love that stroller!!! I caved in and bought it when my youngest was just 3 months old! Panic attack in the mall at Christmas time when my 4 year old wouldn't hold my hand!!!!!

It was a bit heavy to lug on the Disney Bus but I left it to my DH...and it will be his job once again! LOL Otherwise...a great stroller!

Lots of people put their older kids in a stroller. I refuse to.My DD is 5 and went last year for the first time. She has not used a stroller at home for a long time , and I started her on a "walking training program" about 6 mos before our trip. She didn't want one, didn't ask for one, and kept up and most days outpaced us for 10 hrs.

I have 5 year old twins and we are bringing our Maclaren Volos for them. they used them last year and I think will totally appreciate and use them again this year. Obviously they don't use a stroller at home, but in WDW it is a necessity for us.

My 4 1/2 year old stopped using a stroller about 2 years ago (much like my baby, he was never really into it and preferred to walk everywhere). At Disney he gets his own cheap-o umbrella stroller (I can hook it on the baby's stroller when he's not in it). It's a ton of walking and it's supposed to be an enjoyable experience for everyone. (I figure that as long as he wants to sit in it, we'll bring one along even if he's a big on the old side.)

The last time we used a stroller my kids were 8 and 6 (double stroller). It was a lifesaver, they just got too tired without it.

Last time we went my kids were 9 and 7 we didn't use one and it was fine.

I got one for my 7yr old niece at both Epcot and the Animal Kingdom. Both parks are a lot of walking. Plus she gets so into looking around that she walks at a snails pace, so having her in the stroller meant we could go a bit faster, and not have to worry about lossing her.

I have had an 8 year-old beg to ride in the stroller before. :rotfl: 2 trips ago our kids were 2, 5 and 8. We of course brought a stroller for our 2 year-old. After the first day we rented a stroller for our DS then 5 and he and our DD then 8 took turns in it (DS was in it much more than DD). It was easier for us than dealing with whining kids. Last trip kids were 4, 7 and 10. We brought a stroller for DD4 and she was pretty much the only one that rode in it. DS7 rode here and there, but not too much. Next trip our youngest will be 6. We are still debating on if we will bring the stroller for her or not (small, umbrella type, so easily transported). She says no, but I would rather have it and not use it than have to shell out the big bucks for a Disney stroller.

OP here, and I did want to make it clear that I'm not judging anyone for using a stroller for an older kid! That's a LOT of walking. I want a stroller for ME!! I am just trying to decide how many strollers to bring and if we want to deal with all the hassle of strollers on Disney buses.

The kids that were SUPPOSED to be in the stroller were 13 mos and 3 years...but my dd was 4 at the time and she would change off with the 3 year old when he was walking. We had the sit and stand with us too.

I think children should not be in strollers past 5 years old unless they have a medical condition.
Seriously kids can walk better than adults at times.
I find parents will spend the whole day at parks with younger children and just stick them in strollers when they are tired, what's the point of that? If they are tired they need a break, there is so much stimulus at the parks, if they are tired a stroller is not the answer.
We go to the park in the morning and after lunch we are at the resort for a break and then we will head back if need be.

My kids (3 and 5) are lazy, no way am I doing Disney without a stroller. I learned my lesson with my niece and nephew when they were 6 and 7. We brought a stroller to Epcot, they promised they would walk, so we left the stroller by Spaceship Earth, we got to Japan and they said they were tired. We had to carry those two kids out of there. 5 adults taking turns with those 2 kids and it nearly killed us.

I have no kids (yet) and no serious opinion but I wanted to add that I've seen adults sleeping in rented strollers (with their legs hanging out of course) - so that person's answer might be 42. I know this isn't a how old is too old thread but when the knees hit the chin (10-12), you're too big to be in a stroller, lol. Of course I would love to be pushed around in a stroller by the end of a long day at the park. I think my point is that your six year old will definitely not be the oldest kid in a stroller.

Carry on.

well I think teh thread was going along fine until someone made a very judgmental statement.

Going from your popcorn icons I am going to guess that you made that inflammatory statement just to get this thread "going"? Otherwise I'll guess that you're just ignorant to the fact that not all children are the same and that some children happily ride in a stroller at disney past 5 and some happily walk without one at 2 at disney. Please do not judge what other people do. Really, does it honestly bother you that much?

Honestly, no one here should pass judgement and only you know your kids the best. My son will be 7, the youngest will be 4 in Dec and the past 3 years we have done a double stroller and guess what will do the same this year. Some battles are not worth fighting and the option is there to ride or walk.
