How old is too old to dress as a princess at WDW?

this policy is in place not only to protect characters, but to protect children as well. It would be sooo easy for someone to dress up as some disney character and convince a child to go with them, ect..Sad but true

Yup I agree about adults but teens aren't adults so they should be allowed to enjoy themselves.

Disney really has a policy re: age limits and dressing up? I didn't know that! I didn't know you could really enforce something like that?

(Of course, I have no dog in this fight -- got little dudes, not princesses, and I'm not exactly the princess type myself! I just had never heard there was an official stance on non-little-kids dressing up.)
They do not allow adults in costume in the parks for any reasons except the MNSSHP and the defunct Pirates and Princess party. I saw an adult female that was made up at DTD BBB try and get into MK in full costume, and was told she had to change her clothes or she couldn't come in

Yes, but there has to be a line drawn somewhere. I teach 16 year olds that look 25. I can understand not allowing teens to dress up because a fair number of them can pass for adults. It is not fair that their fun should be ruined because of the possibility of someone else doing something bad, but unfortunately that is often the case.

I say let them be.... To OP, you could obvioulsy tell they were teens by your post so what's the big deal? OK so your little princess maybe looked a little confused but it sounds like you could easily tell and straightened it out with her immediately. As far as reference of 16 yo in 25 yo bodies, you are right on, that is not their fault. My nine year old is over 5 ft tall, a bigger sized girl, but if I had to pick her age on maturity I would say she acts 7. She is very immature and naive. Totally not her fault that at 9 yo she is developing and her body is acting teen but not on the inside. I agree, at 12 or 13 I too would have begged for BBB! Maybe even 16 if I had enough security at the time to not worry about ppl saying, "OMG your a teen and dressed like a princess":thumbsup2

From the Disney website FAQ:
(bold is mine)
http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/theme-parks/#subCategory7

"What is the best way to dress for a day at the parks? Is there any clothing that isn't permissible?

The parks are a casual, family-oriented environment. We suggest you dress comfortably, wear good walking shoes and check the local weather report before you leave for the parks.

Ensuring that the parks are family friendly is an important part of the Disney experience. In that spirit, we ask you to use your discretion and common sense. Attire that is not appropriate for the theme parks (and which may result in refusal of admittance) includes but is not limited to:

Adult costumes or clothing that can be viewed as representative of an actual Disney character
Masks (unless you are dressing up for a particular event)
Clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics
Excessively torn clothing
Clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment
Objectionable tattoos

A Guest is allowed into the parks if her or his hair (or make-up, if applicable) has been made to resemble a Disney Princess or character (for example, after a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique makeover) provided the Guest is not also wearing a costume or clothed to look like the character."

If I had a daughter that I was taking to BBB I probably would do it with her. But I wouldnt dress up. I think if Disney has a problem w/ it then let them deal w/ it.

I wish we all would go to the parks in full costume. I got my hair and makeup done at BBB last time and all the cast members called me princess all day. It was very magical!

I've done BBB with my girls and I'm 38, we did NOT dress up. DLR has a rule that only guests 10 and under can dress up, unless you are attending the ToT Party at DCA and then if you are dressed as a Disney character you are not allowed to sign autographs. They need to stick to this rule, children older then 10-12 should not be allowed to dress up IMO. I do think they should extend it to 12 tho, I think 10 is too young.

We went to DLR once and a young lady was dressed like Belle, they refused her admittance to the park until she changed her clothes.

Took family to a Yogi Bear Campground this year for a Princess Weekend and had a
50ish year old woman dressed like the Queen on SnowWhite.

They probably went to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, which has no age limit.
As far as I am concerned, you are only too old to dress as a princess when you feel like you are too old. Some people never grow old. :goodvibes

This thread reminded me of the woman we saw the first time we ate at Chef Mickey's. She and her little girl were dressed as Minnie Mouse. The little girl was darling and they were both all glittery and had their hair all done up and sprayed.

The problem was the woman was very tall in a very short dress, and was very shapely in a very tight dress! I couldn't help but wonder if her costume was bought in more of an "adult" store than one they would have at Disney!! There was absolutely no danger of her being mistaken for the real Minnie but she was getting a LOT of attention!

LMAO I LOVE IT!!!! I have those kind of costumes but they stay in the closet til the kids go to bed :cool1:

Although maybe not the case here, I saw a young lady on a soccer team my son's was playing and I would have sworn she was 12-14...she was 8. I felt so bad for her, it must have been very difficult to be that tall and to have developed so early. We are seeing some early development in young girls these days. I would applaud a 12 year old who still wanted to be young. Also I think kids are in earlier grades at older ages these days. I was 12 when I started 8th grade, but we know of several families where their 12 year old just started 6th grade.

My dd is 10. She has already gone through puberty and she is actually the shape and size I was at 18 (i was small for my age but not a lot). Judging a book by it's cover can sometimes lead you to the wrong answer (age). My dd still loves American Girl, barbies, dolls, swinging, etc and sometimes feels the pressure from looking older. So, my thought is that these girls may have been younger. Maybe they were not. But kids these days grow up too fast, let them be kids. It is Disney after all. My dh hunted for a certain character to sign his hat the last time we were there! he LOVES the characters!!

From a mom who has a 10 year old that looks like she is 15, thank you for understanding how hard it is at times. It is very very hard for her at times.
