How old is too old for customs?

Outside of appliqued t's (which I figure anyone can wear) at what age did you stop with the custom outfits.

We are going to WDW in December-Ds's will be 8 and 5. I was looking at some of the cute overall sets but I'm afraid DS 8 will be to old.

By costumes do you mean matching outfits? Or do you mean dressing them up like pirates and princesses?
I think it depends on the person for both questions. Many kids, especially boys, will get really picky about "dressing like a baby" once they get into kindergarten. But then again, you will see adults in costumes and matching clothes at WDW all the time.pirate:princess:

I would not put an 8 year old in overalls. IMO that is way too old. Maybe make matching t-shirts?

My boys stopped wearing overalls around the age of 3, so I say too old. Do they even make them that large?

Overalls? Really? I agree that past "toddler" age, there is NO WAY I would even want to put my boys in overalls. My boys are 4 and almost 6 and they most definitely have their own taste in clothes. I can't even imagine the logistics of potty trained boys wearing overalls, but I digress...

They make them up to mens sizes. About 2 years ago, my oldest started this overall thing and that's when we found out they make them to mens sizes. Funny how he wouldn't wear them as a toddler.

Is your 8 year old willing to wear them? If she wants to do it, I say go for it! My daughter loved wearing her custom outfits and she and her sister got so many compliments at the parks, even I got tired of it!

Maybe a good compromise...instead of overalls, you can find a ton of cute tops/pants or shorts set on eBay and etsy.

I'd say it depends on your DS. If he likes them and is ok wearing them, then go for it. I think it's a little different at Disney too ;) Kids not willing to wear customes at home *mydaughter* are more willing at Disney. (She's actually helping design the sets for our trip ;) )

I mean matching outfits-not all out costumes. More of the custom-all of our family has the same theme going on vibe.

My youngest definitely has his own taste in clothes and tends towards the preppy look but would be willing to dress up as Mickey himself he's so excited for this trip. The oldest-has no fashion sense and as long as it covers all of his parts he's fine-for him, it doesn't even have to be clean or matching.

Overalls past potty training age are fine for me. Both of my boys are adept at taking off buckles so I wouldn't see that as a problem. Maybe I'll do matching t's and short sets/denims. We are going in december-maybe I can find a running pants like pattern for the long pants.

My DSS8 would never agree to wear overalls and I highly doubt he would agree to be matching with his siblings. Now he would probably go for a cute custom tee shirt if he got to help pick it out and he didn't "match" anyone else exactly. I think a theme might work but get your son's input before going all out so you won't be disappointed if he refuses to wear it.

My boys are use to dressing alike so I'm not too worried about that. I get their pictures taken a lot and they are always in matching or coordinating clothes (plus everyone else in the grand gathering is going to have the same shirt on too-I was just looking for a little extra for my boys.

My boys liked to dress the same at that age, although they would not have worn overalls. It didn't happen too often though as the oldest is big for his age and the younger was small so it was hard to find similar clothes. I am sure you could find some age appropriate customs for them.

I think it depends on the kid. I have an 8 yr old DS and he would never wear regular overalls, never mind custom ones. He also would not want to be dressed like his little brother.

Do your boys a favor and let them wear shorts and (non-appliqued Ts). They are both too old for what you're talking about.

I have three sons, and one of them was like your oldest -- no fashion sense and he let me continue choosing his clothes for a long time. I tried really hard to make sure he wore what the other kids were wearing, and appliques and overalls past toddler years were never what it was.

8 is way too old. The 5 y.o. maybe, depending on how toned down or loud it is;) I think it's easier for girls to do the "customs" thing...boys just seem to look ridiculous in them past the toddler stage IMHO. That being said even girls are too old for customs past the age of 7 or so. JMHO.

How about matching tshirts? I got my boys POTC shirts that were masculine, not girly. Since it's Disney, they can "geek out" a little - maybe some matching cargo shorts?

I definitely agree.

Matching tops and khakis make for a nice look. It may be bitter cold in Dec so I wouldn't go all out on something that may be covered by a winter coat! ;)

It's sad, but the end for those type of clothes comes much earlier for boys than girls. I am surprised that you can find these outfits past size 4T for boys. At home my fear would be teasing from other boys his age. The most wonderful thing about WDW however is that NO ONE KNOWS YOU!! That gives you a little wiggle room. I however would stick to matching t-shirts that are not too baby looking and match colors so you photos looks nice if you wish.
