How often is your rubbish picked up,

Yard waste is picked up once a week and it doesn't have to be in bags. We can just pile it at the corner of the lot by the road and they pick it up.

Garbage is once per week. We don't have recycling pick up. I keep newspapers and cardboard and take it to a recycling center. Everything else goes in the garbage. Our county uses a waste-to-energy facility (incinerator) so everything is burned and we don't have to separate anything. They use a magnet on everything going onto the conveyor belt and pull out all the metals for recycling.

If we have large items we can call for special pick up and it's added to our water/sewer/garbage bill.

None. Hubby goes to the dump about 1x a month, maybe more frequently in the summer with smelly, rotten garbage bags and bugs. No city and no community trash pick up.

Trash every week, recycling every other week, on Friday for my part of town. (The other part of town has pick-up on Thursdays.) The town schedules yard waste pick up several times throughout the spring, and again in the fall for leaves. They also schedule Christmas tree pick up; this year it was every Monday through the end of January. The town provides the recycling bin, and if it's full you can put out recyclables in paper bags or boxes, but no plastic trash bags! Everyone supplies his own trash barrel. We don't "pay" for this service; it's rolled into the property taxes.

The raccoons here are relentless and smart; they can open any trash can known to mankind, including the ones with the screw-on lids or flip-handle locks. It's not uncommon, as I am drifting off to sleep in the dark late at night, to hear DH say, "POOP!" and go running downstairs to scare off the raccoons and clean up the dumped trash. Often in the summer, we freeze food waste and put it out late at night on Thursdays (maybe midnight, or even 1am on Fridays) to try and keep the critters away from it. If there are bears spotted in your area, nobody's allowed to put food waste outside at all. You have to take it to the town collection site every Saturday morning. What a mess! Fortunately, it's only happened a couple of times since we've lived here. I think the bears are always around, just not interested in venturing into the neighborhoods!

That's basically why NPS and even some city parks use bear resistant trash enclosures. I don't think squirrels are all that interested in trash, but raccoons are.

Any worries about bears where you live? I've come across my fair share of bears in the Sierra Nevada. In Yosemite they are relentless when it comes to digging through trash.

Every Monday and Thursday is garbage.
Every Friday from April-November is vegetation.
Has to be put in trash cans or paper lawn bags from April-September, and then with leaves in the fall , just dumped in the street in piles.
Recycling is every Friday, but alternates-paper and then glass\plastic every other.
Bulk pickup is quarterly on a Wednesday.

OMG I don't know where I would even store that much trash for a whole month! yuk!

Trash = 2x/week (1 of those days you can put large items out); recycling = 1x/week.

Once a week for trash; every other week for recycling. Yard waste only in the fall when they'll pick up leaves in clear plastic bags every other week. Our county has a huge drive-in facilty where you can bring in excess recycling, trash and yard waste. The yard waste area also sells mulch and compost by the truckload at very low prices so that part is fairly self-sustaining.

3 times in a 7 day period, 2 of those 3 include an additional Recycle container. Big stuff ( mattresses/frig etc gets a special pick up)

Garbage: weekly.
Recyclables: bi-weekly.

My neighborhood has Thursday pickup with a one-day delay for holidays. Toledo switched to automated in 2010, and switched to Republic Services in 2011. The largest size we have for the carts is 96 gallons.

Our garbage and recycling are both picked up every Monday, even on holidays. Other areas are picked up on other days. Our day never changes.

Same for us! I love that that it is so predictable!

Yard/green waste, recycling and trash are picked up every Thursday.

Weekly refuse collection and fortnightly recycling and glass collection. No green waste recycling kerbside unless you pay for the service.

Once a week for trash at home & at work.

Recycling must be taken TO the recycling center if you want to recycle. The upside is they'll pay for almost anything. Got $77 for a dead fridge once.

I'm just kind of wondering who still uses the term "rubbish" over "garbage" or "trash". I don't think I've really heard that word used unless it was someone trying to intentionally sound old-fashioned. Or mixed with a faux English accent. Maybe a regional thing?
