How often have you lost points?

I mean by banking them, then not using them. Do you find that a few points here and there get lost each year or do you always plan another trip to use them (plus new points) up?

We've been members since 1999 - have never had any points expire on us. We've banked some years and borrowed others, but have managed to take at least one trip every year (sometimes 2).

Unless you have bought too many points for your needs or are unable/unwilling to plan ahead, you shouldn't have to worry about losing points. One way is to upgrade your accomodations. In fact, we stayed in a studio only once - after our first trip in a 2 bedroom, a studio just didn't cut it, LOL! Now we reserve a 1 bedroomn even if it's just the two of us and the 2 bedroom if we invite family along.

If necessary, you can rent or give away any extra points. Also, you can use points to to vacation at other than a DVC resort. they can be a nice change of pace - especially if you are bumping up against an expiration date.

We have been members since 1993 and like Carol, have never lost a point. We also have banked and borrowed over the years, but I do keep very close tabs on points. We take 2, 3 or more trips a year which does help. But with modest planning you should not have any of your points expire.

Since January 1995 we've had 10,461 OKW points deposited into our membership accounts.

The total number of points we've had expire - ZERO.

I've found as we've added on over the years the more points we have the easier it gets to manage them. Having both a June and December UY further helps with managing the accounts by allowing us to select the UY that works best for a particular vacation.

With just a bit of planning and making note of banking deadlines, managing our memberships is not difficult. To help with banking I've programmed my Quicken financial software to send me reminders about two weeks before the deadline. This works well for us. The member website has banking information specific to your membership as well.

I've seen other threads discussing this and I expect you won't find many here who routinely have points expire.

I have never lost points. I write the banking dates on my calendar each year so I don't miss them.

I'd give the points to someone before I'd let them just expire without anyone having used them. I have enough friends and family who would be willing to go, at a moment's notice, no less.

I booked a BCV studio for 2 weeks over Christmas. Then I decided to split our stay with SSR so I got on the waitlist for SSR NYE week.
Well the waitlist came thru like 2 weeks before our trip and that is how we ended up with 5 extra points.
Because I was less than 30 days when I made the switch, those 5 points went into holding.

I couldnt bank them or transfer so I had to let them go to a better place

I still think of them everyday and I promise to take care to ensure this tragic event never occurs again

LOL, this is exactly us too, or will be this summer. I have 4 points in a holding account due to switching from BCV to SSR 14 days before our last trip. I can't think of anything to do with 4 points and don't want to borrow more points to take a vacation before August so there you go... 4 points lost forever.

we are at risk to lose 12 points this year as they are in holding. I hope to be able to use them and transfer or rent out 12 points from our regular allotment to another DISer... just have to see how it plays out!

Lost 4 points last year. We didn't travel the year DS was born, transferred all but 10 points from that year to another member, so I was left with those 10 points plus 6 banked points from the year before. Treated my friend's family to a night in a studio while they were in FL visiting family, but those 4 precious points were left to expire.

Don't worry, after this year I plan to be in constant borrow mode, so no more wasted points! At least until I talk DH into that CRV add-on in a few years!

P.S. Unless the holding points have been previously banked, borrowed or transferred, they are transferrable, even SSR points!

I almost lost 545 points!

(SSR was NOT involved, LOL).

When I closed on the big one, the TTS did not know besides the 1156 2005 points already banked into my 2006 April UY, there were 545 2004 points already banked into 2005 UY.

Once Disney did its estoppel thingie, I found out in late Feb. that I had 545 points that would expire 04/01/2006. I was not in the system until the middle of the last week of February.

Thanks to the amazing power of the DISboard's R/T sub, I was able to rent them all for ressies before 04/01/2006. Not a single point lost.

And to make Dave and B3 happy (not to mention me), not a point sold for below $10.00+, despite their distress.
