How often do you wash long hair?

I was complaining about how long it takes to dry and straighten my hair every day at the salon and my stylist stated that no one with long hair washes it daily any more. Every 3 days is the norm. I don't think I could stand that. What do you guys do?

Wash it. My head would be itching and droopy. I have shoulder length and it's not long long but I can't stand it unless it is washed. It's just part of the routine.

We wash our hair every other day.

DH's hair (past his behind) would look greasy if he went any longer than that.

Older DD and I have really thick hair and occasionally wash it on the third day (usually only if it's straightened and still looks good and I don't want to wash/dry/straighten again). We live in a colder climate and really don't sweat, so maybe that plays into not needing daily washing. (When we're at Disney or outside a lot in the summer we prefer to wash it every day)

WHen straightening - every other day. I have a ton of thick coarse hair and I couldnt go any longer thatn that. Just feels icky!

I don't have long hair, but I do straighten it, which is a bit of a pain. I wash it every other day and on the day I don't wash it I use a bit of dry shampoo. That is what my stylist recommended as well (not washing every day).

Washing your hair everyday will overdry it and ruin it, especially if you're using hot styling tools on it. Shampooing takes out all the natural oils your hair needs. Get a dry shampoo (Suave, Tresemme, etc) and use that.

I wash my hair twice a week, three times max (and that's only if it's dirty). I used to wash it daily until someone explained to me the damage I was doing. Now my hair is much more healthy looking and easier to deal with.

my dd has waistlength hair and we wash it everyday or it's really greasy on her scalp - no curling irons/straighteners, etc.... Never heard of dry shampoo - will definately be looking into that.:thumbsup2

My hair is mid back and I wash it every day. I have a very oily scalp and if I don't wash daily, my head looks like an oil slick. I don't use a lot of shampoo, and I focus on the scalp rather than the length of my hair. I don't blow dry my hair or curl it (it's too straight to straighten!), and I don't use any product unless I'm doing an updo for a special occasion.

I have extremely oily hair and I have to wash it every day. On the rare Saturday that it doesn't get washed, it feels so nasty and my head itches all day. My older dd washes hers every other day and my youngest dd only needs hers done about every 3rd day.

My hair is down to my knees and I wear it in a bun most days. That way the length doesn't get dirty, just the scalp gets the oil. I wash every couple of days and if I'm really lazy, I use the tresseme foam shampoo on my scalp on the third day. I hate the powder shampoo- it makes my hair look dirtier than if I just left it.

DD12 has long hair and she washes it every other day. When she's occasionally gone 3 days it's looked pretty bad by the 3rd day.

I have hair down to my elbows. It is very dry and I live in a very dry climate. I wash every 3 days because it is so dry here and my hair is also. If I washed more often my hair would be straw.

I think the answer lies in what type of hair you have and where you live.

I wash my hair everynight before bed...if I don't it is all oily and gross looking.

I wash mine every day. I have very thin hair and don't put any product in it.

We wash YDD's hair on mondays and thursdays. She has mid-back length hair. It doesn't look dirty between but it gets pretty ratty. We use a detangling spray on it every morning. She really needs it conditioned more often than shampooing.

My hair is a little past my shoulders but not really, really long, and I have to wash it every day. If I don't, it gets greasy and nasty and makes my head itch.

I don't have super long hair -- in fact, since I cut it, it's pretty short. But I must wash my hair daily. I've tried skipping days, but my scalp just doesn't like it.

I wash mine twice a week. I don't use a lot of products on it, so it doesn't get a build up of them weighing it down. I use a shampoo/conditioner, a separate conditioner that I leave in for a few minutes before rinsing, silk which is a leave in conditioner, a dab of mousse for the roots to have volume at the crown, and a very fine mist of hairspray if needed. And then a shine mist on top of that. My hair is shoulder length now, but when it was waist length I still only washed it twice a week. There is no way I have time to wash everyday as I work 12.5 hour shifts (sometimes more) and it would be so dry and flyaway if I did. Plus my hair always looks better and is easier to work with when it isn't freshly washed that day.

My hair is half way down my back and I wash it every day. In the summer, if I work outside, I will wash it twice.

LOL,, looks like I'm the grubby one here. ONCE per week. It is almost to my shoulders, not long by any means. But if I wash it more than that, it is frizzy and yucky looking.

I only use cold process soap bars to wash with, no conditioners as that makes it weighed down and oily looking. If you are having oily scalp problems, I really do recommend using a cold process soap bar and leaving off the conditioners.
