Once a year, and for me that's enough. My mom and I don't really get along, so I grit my teeth for one week a year.

I wish it wasn't that way, but I cannot stand her controlling ways and the fact that she thinks that I'm still a child and can't make my own decisions.

Now my ILs, love them. We see them a few times a year since they live 8 hours away from us. We tried at one time to move to their city but that didn't pan out. Now they're going to retire to FL and we'll try to move down there too.:)

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has to limit contact with her parents. Sometimes, the relationship is so toxic you just have to back away. They live 3000 miles away in WA state. I got back yesterday from a week visiting there. I was ready to leave after 3 days. It's too bad that my relationship with my Dad suffers because Mom can't stay away from the bottle. That's why I live in VA. I try to be warm and cordial but not too close. I took enough of the abuse when I was a kid, don't need it now. I'm very happy for all those who are so close to their parents. I wish it could be for me but it never will. I've grown to accept that.

About 30 miles away. Couple of times a year (holidays, birthdays.) We talk on the phone once or twice a month.

Your post pretty much sums it up for me, except my dad is the drinker. We're moving 1500 miles away so that our kids won't be exposed to the toxicity of their way of thinking/acting on a regular basis. That said, I see my mom about once a month, and I rarely see or speak to my dad. The last time I saw him was a year ago. He is scary to be around.

WOW! Same story here! Except my MIL lives 3 doors down the street and wants to move to FL but my DW refuses to move. SO we are both working on DW now.

I live 50 minutes from my Mum & we don't visit as often as she would like, but we do see her every couple of months at least.

I live 2600 km away. My dad and the rest of the family lives in Iceland and I live in Denmark. I visit Iceland about 3 times a year since I miss the family alot, especially since my mom died 2 years ago.

I live about 25 minutes from my Dad as well as my in-laws. I currently visit my Dad on Wednesdays and then again on Sunday, right before church. This week I also seen him on Tuesday because he needed me to do something for him. I see my in-laws every Monday, until school starts in a couple of weeks. Then I am not sure how often I will see them. I will change my Dad's 'normal day' to Friday once school starts. Since losing my Mom he needs the time with me and the girls, the only day I can do all the traveling is Friday...then we can stay longer since no school the next day.

I see my parents about every other week and they live a half hour or so away (though I did spend a month going there daily in the afternoons until my grandmother got her new afternoon aide). I talk to my mom every day about twice a day (generally once while at work, we talk on IM on and off for most of the day since we both leave it on, and then a longer catch up convo in the evenings).

I see my inlaws about once a month and that's plenty for me. Maybe when my MIL can think about what she says before saying it, I might look forward to seeing them more but since we moved back to NY she has increased her nastiness frequency to "everytime I see her."

My parents live right next door so usually every day I see them.:D

My mom lives about 1000 miles away. Typically I may see her every other year, but this year, she's visited us twice (we paid for one of them) and she's talking about coming over to WDW to visit with us before our Dec cruise. I do call her once a week. When we lived in the same town, I probably saw her twice a month. I love her, but she does grate on my nerves.

My in-laws are now about 600 miles away. We usually see them 1-2 times per year. We typically go there for Christmas (my mom has other family come to her most Christmases), and they usually visit us once during the year. When we lived in the same town, we saw them at least weekly, usually 2-3 times a week. Much closer to them (physically and emotionally), and we often just dropped by.

I live with my dad so I see him every day! My mom is in my heart every day too.

One of my sisters lives a half hour away. So she, her husband and her 2 girls see my dad about once a week. The girls have special things they do with Papa and he loves them dearly. He and my mom were my older niece's caregivers for the first year of her life, before my mom got sick.

My 2 sisters live about 5 hours away. We visit them or they visit us (we go back and forth) for all the major holidays and the kids birthdays. In fact, they'll be here in 2 weeks for my niece's 2nd birthday. Then we'll go there for another niece's 4th birthday.

My 2 brothers live about 6 hours away. My older brother tries to get here about 2-3 times a year, but with 2 13 yr olds and a 10 yr old it gets hard. Plus he's a family doctor and his hours are killer. But we always see them at my sister's. My younger brother makes little event to come here to visit--he visited us for the first time in almost 2 yrs back in June. We do see him at my sister's as well.
