How often do you visit your local library?

I had a small panic attack on Saturday--which DH found very amusing. We were at the library and I noticed a sign saying the library would be closed from the first of April through mid-May! I freaked. No library for more than a month?

Now this is my local branch--there are others that are a bit further away but certainly doable. I can also continue to reserve books online and pick them up at any of the other branches. But I like having my library just around the corner. I go every Saturday and I love being able to just wander around and take home anything that catches my fancy. It's one of my very favorite things to do.

The minute we stepped outside, I had to call my mom to tell her the news. She had already heard and gotten over her panic attack but she thought it was pretty funny that I was so freaked out. She told me, "I don't know anyone who uses the library more than you and I do."

I was just curious how often you visit your local library and what do you do there? Ours is really a gathering place where you can see friends and neighbors. It's not a quiet, hush-hush library--people are on computers or chatting and there's always something going on.

Would you panic if your local library were closed for more than a MONTH?? (Still a little freaked, I guess!)

One of the community theater groups I perfrom with will place on reserve the script for the next show right before auditions so people can read it. This is about the only time I go my library...so about 4 times a year. Otherwise I prefer to buy my books so I can read then at my own pace and not worry about needing to return it by certain time.

I'm like you! I go at least once a week. I sneak it in more often if possible.

DD and I went yesterday and I am going back today.

Our library is much like yours. It is new and beautiful and it is one of my 3 favorite places to visit. (WDW being #1).

They close on holiday weekends and it always freaks me just a bit. LOL Funny thing is that our old library--I think I was in there 3 times in 25 years!!

We go to the library at least twice/week. We love to read, and we stock up on books every time we go. We homeschool, so I'm usually on the prowl for books that will go hand-in-hand with our schoolwork, too.

Luckily, I live near several library branches. If one closes, there are other branches I can visit.

We love the library! :goodvibes

We go to the library a few times a week. My whole family LOVES the library; we go for books, homework help, movies, and programs that are held at our branch. DD 20 works at a branch a little farther away, but we would hate it if ours closed for very long!

About once a month. I also use our church library.

We are usually there once a week. DD13 and DS6 love their books. Thank goodness for the library, because without it we would go broke buying books. :rotfl:

I go to the library 2-3 times a week. I put a lot of DVD's on hold there. DS10 is always needing a new book for Accelerated Reading or a school project. Of course I always have to have a book to read. Sometimes I use the computers, if our internet connection is down or DH is hogging our home computer. Occasionally they'll have someone come in and bring animals from the wild life animal hospital, DS and I both like to check that out. I would love to get a part-time job there while DS is in school.

Once a week - unless we're on vacation or something.

I need to be always reading something and my kids are the same. In fact, DS finished all his books and was so desperate he started reading manuals and cereal boxes.

DH doesn't get it at all. He hates reading. I'm glad my kids take after me :thumbsup2

I'm like your son, MamaLema. My cousins used to call me the "Bottomfeeder Reader." :teeth: When I run out of books, I will read anything--cereal boxes, old newspapers, the encyclopedia--whatever I can find!

My Mom likes to read the large-print books, so I take her every 2-3 weeks. She gets 5 - 7 books at a time. We rotate, going to the 3 closest branch libraries. I have a BIL who pays to use the library in the city next to him because it's a bigger library (with better parking!)

I would be bummed, too. I order most of my books through the online system and them pick them up at my branch library, so if it ever closed, I'd go to a different branch, so it's just a slight hassle. I do like my library, it's newly renovated and nicely kept.

Well this is SAD but I live right across the street from my Library and have for quite some time(over 20 yrs.)and I can count on my hands how many times I have passed through it's doors. Most of those have been getting DD .

I just think with the internet I can find what ever I need .I was never a reader and hate spelling and grammer as you can see from the many mistakes in any of my post.

I couldn't even tell you where our local library is. It could close forever and I would be none the wiser. I'm sure the last time I set foot in a library was college.

I work about 2 blocks from the main downtown library in Knoxville - so if I have a free lunchtime I walk over there for an hour or so. I'm probably there once every two or three weeks.

We live in a different county, and me and the kids head to the county library on Saturdays sometimes. Lately it hasn't been very often (I don't think we've all been since just after New Years - but the kids have gone recently for school trips like puppet shows). I'd say we're there once a month usually. We're there much more often in the summer than any other time of year for some reason.

The kids and I go once a week. They rent movies that are due back in 7 days, so I know it's at least that.
I loooooove to read, and love my town's beautiful big library. :thumbsup2
