How often do you redecorate/paint a room? I just repainted the bathroom and my DH was mad because he said it had only been 9 years and therefore, paint should still be good. I thought, its been almost 10 years, and I am tired of this color/decor. So, how often do you repaint a room?

I chose 'other' because it depends. DD's room I repaint every couple of years, our bedroom every 7-8 years, other rooms longer. Last weekend we repainted the home office, it was last painted the night before we moved in 15 years ago.

All the time! Seriously, I love to paint. We have been in our house for 9 years and I painted every room right when we moved in, all have been repainted at least once more, and the bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen have been painted at least three times each. I love the look of fresh, clean paint. It is a cheap way to get a new look.

I put 10 - 15 years.

The reality is the bathrooms need to be repainted more often and some rooms, like bedrooms, can go even longer.

I have my home painted in neutral colors, so while I'll repaint doors and trim every couple of years, the walls can go a long time.

I like to think I change up the accessories every once in a while to keep things fresh, but I admit to having some rooms that have been pretty much the same for the 15 years we've lived here.

I put other.

We're in an apartment so we can't paint it ourselves.

We collect mid-century furniture so we are constantly adding to the collection, thus we move things around to suit our new pieces as we acquire them.

We have a huge living room (thank you mid-century architects!) so we have plenty of room and still get that stark look we like.

Our artwork is nice, we have quite a few Shag works and Disneyland art that fits right in, so those don't change, either. They just get added to as well.

Other....when it becomes absolutely necessary.:rotfl:

My issue in this house is the 20 FOOT ceiling in the family room. We are going to have to hire it out, ugh.

I am in process of cleaning and changing things around at the moment. I am trying to "clean sweep" each room and get rid of STUFF!

My husband claims you shouldn't paint too often (more than every 10 years) because "too much paint is bad for the sheetrock." :lmao::rolleyes2 I think he's just lazy. Of course he also thinks that furniture should be at least 6 inches away from the wall to protect the sheetrock. :confused3 I pretty much ignore the ridiculousness and paint when I feel like it.

I'm going to repaint the entire inside of the house this summer.

Apparently, not often enough. DD stayed in her brother's room after he moved out (they shared for her first 3 years) and lived with a dinosaur/prime color theme until she was 7 and begged me to redecorate:rotfl: That year I did a cute pink hearts and bows room for her (the rug was rose as well). She started begging at 14 for a new, more grown-up room so last year when she turned 15 I redid her room for her birthday gift. We pulled the rugs and put down a wood floor and scatter rugs, painted the room her choice of colors (sea foam), turned her desk into a makeup/hair vanity and let her pick out her own wall hangings, etc. She is very pleased but hey, it ended up costing us almost $1000 so she's stuck with it now and then it'll become a guest bedroom.

I repaint and decorate every ten years or so...its not anything I like to do and I'm not very good at it (not to mention the expense which I'd rather spend the $$ on travel). I'm about due for new carpets upstairs and new countertop in the kitchen, if no other reason than to update the look. Damn, that's gonna cost a couple Ks for sure:sad2:

BAHAHAHA!:lmao:

So if you had 20ft ceilings would you DIY? I would have to rent scaffolding. I don't think I could do it.

Your husband and my father could form a society for the protection of drywall. He had so many wall rules it was amazing. Anytime decorating work was involved a new rule was created.

Got married in 1996 and lived at 8 addresses in that time (5 houses we owned and 3 apartments early on)...so 8 places in 17 years, it's safe to say that we've never been anywhere long enough to really answer this poll. But we have been in current house almost 6 years (yup, that's a record for us :thumbsup2) and we painted several rooms (kids bedrooms) as we were moving in...they are still good, so no plans to paint them anytime soon (though one DD is begging to re-do her room :rolleyes2). We have painted various rooms over the 6 years we've lived here and still have a few more to go (until we've painted the entire house). I figure once we get them all done, we will start over...so I think about 10 years is a good timeframe for re-painting/redecorating. We plan to move to FL in 4 years, so it's likely that we'll just have the whole house re-painted in that antique white to put it on the market (or offer a paint allowance).

It depends on the room.

But not often. More than once every 6 or 7 years would get kind of irritating.

X2.

We've lived in this house ten years. It was completely wall-papered when we moved in. At that point, I removed the paper in every room except three, which I put new paper in.
Living Room: 3 times.
Kitchen: 2 times.
Family Room: 3 times.
Dining Room: Wallpaper when we moved in, then painted 2 times.
Stairwell: 2 times.
MBR: Wallpaper when we moved in. (I hate it, but it needs new drywall so I keep waiting to change it so I can paint.)
Master Bath: Once. (I would change it too, but it coordinates with the MBR so I keep waiting to make that big change all at once.
DD's Room: Wallpaper when we moved in, then painted 1 time.
DS's Room: 2 times.
Hallway: 2 times.
Mudroom: 2 times.
Downstairs Bath: 2 times.
And I really want to make a subtle change in the living room again.

It's a sickness. :crazy2: My husband says I'm going to decrease the size of the rooms if I keep it up. :rotfl2:

We have cathedral ceilings in the living room (I think they are more like 16 feet at the highest part), and DH does the highest part for me with the extension ladder. I do most all the rest of it myself.

Been in my house 30 years, every room has been painted once, most within a year of moving in, the people we bought our house from actually had an orange wall!:hyper:
Family room and Living room painted once in 30 years
Kitchen painted twice
Master bath painted 3 times
Kids bath painted once
Guest bath painted once
Bedrooms painted once

Now, I am in the process of selling my parents house, none of the three bedrooms has been painted in the 53 years since the house was built.
Every realtor, and the inspectors who have gone through all agree, they still don't need to be painted. Gentle use I guess

I hesitate to mention....since I got flamed in another thread about this...it still has the original 53 year old wall to wall carpet, and the inspector pulled corners up during his look at the house and he says it too, is in perfect shape, clean, no infestations, good for many many more decades of use.:offtopic:
