I am not looking for a religious debate! I was just wondering how oftenpeople read it. I never do..I use to until I went to college. But not anymore. So how often do you read it?

Well I couldn't choose from those answers... not once a month but not around the holidays either... whenever the mood strikes me, I read it :)

Never.

I went to Catholic school K-12, and I can count the times we read the bible on 1 hand, nor was I raised reading the bible. DS 9 has lots of questions about why we don't read the bible, so I got him one and told him he could read it and if he had questions we could talk about them. So I figure I should probably read it too, just to prepare myself.

Never. Read it (most of it anyway) in school..went to Catholic school for 12 years and was forced to read it for religion class. I probably would not have read it otherwise, my parents never read it or had us read it. Someday I might read it again (and actually pay attention to what I'm reading lol) just because it's nice to know things about stuff. :p I'm not Catholic anymore, not any religion.

If you don't read it, how will you know what God wants or expects?

Uh, oh. I'm starting to smell a religious debate about to start up...

Are you my twin? I went to catholic school and I know before I got excused in 10th grade we were really studying one part of it...I dont remember what part.

But yeah, 'i never paid attention so I could never quote it or anything. And I am not really catholic now either. But I havent had time to pick another!LOL!

Sorry...it doesn't say DEBATE in the thread title!

I said 'never,' but that's not really fair.

Let's just say that I don't make a habit of doing it, and when I do, it's generally for research purposes.

I have several different Buddhist books, that I consider bibles. They are different interpretations, of different parts, I Ching, etc.
I read a few pages atleast once a week. I always feel much better after reading one.:sunny:

See, I think this implies that we all have faith in what is written in the bible.

My general feeling is that if I get through this life acting in a way that is kind to other people then that will get me where I need to be in the afterlife.

LOL!! Disney is my religion. :p

I went for a while trying to read it every night. I can' t read the King James version as well as I can the Living Bible Edition. Then one night i didn't and so on and so forth. I got out of the habit of doing it and I just haven't started back yet. However, i am reading a book called the purpose driven life and It is great! I consider myself a christian, but, as bad as I hate to admit it the bible is hard to hold my attention as well as a this book i am reading now does. It has bible passages in it and explains them to me. Things I don't think i would get if I was just reading the bible a lone. I do plan to read the bible all the way through oneday but I think I may do it with a study guide so that I don't miss what the lord is trying to tell me.

Just my 2 cents :)

Not trying to start a debate. Just indicating why I read it at least a few times/week. I should have stated that. I believe the Bible is God's manual to us and tells us what he wants/expects from us.

I'm another one that went to Catholic school for 6 years and was forced to read the Bible. I didn't learn anything from it back then. Now I read it because I want to and it's amazing what a story it is!

Jewish worship services revolve around readings from torah (the five books of Moses) and Haftarah (the prophets). torah is read every monday and Thursday mornings as wellas on Saturday during Shabbat services. Haftarah is read after the Torah reading on Saturday morning.

since I'm in synagogue once or twice a month, I read along (in English translation) during the service.

other than that..well, I ma not a scholar, I read when the mood strikes me or when I want to scheck an interesting reference.

If you are honestly just asking. I feel like the stories in the bibe were made up so that people could have an explination of the unknown. And, again this is just what I have found so no debating, I find religious people very unexcepting of different ideas, lifestyles, and veiws. Again, I am not looking for a debate..but since you asked.

The one thing that always rang true is treat others as you would want to be treated. But in all honesty, I think that is stated in every religion. So, I dont think it is just "God" that wants that.

I think it is even in the "WDW Rules" So Unlce Walt wanted that too!;)

I actually don't feel the need to read a book to tell me how to live my life. I was raised by kind, hardworking parents that instilled strong moral values in me. That's what I live by.
