How Often Do You Read The Bible

I read it a couple of times a month... but honestly, don't read it as often as I should. I try to read our Children's Bible to the girls.. mostly just Bible Stories.. in terms they can understand.

I agree with the others who feel that living a life of kindness and decency toward others ought to be enough. I just don't identify with any religion, although the philosophies at the core of Buddhism and Taoism have certainly influenced me. Just my own approach to things - no complaints so far.

I read at least 2 chapters every day. I use the King James Version. I've worn out two Bibles.

I carry my Bible with me on all vacations, business trips, etc.

I voted that I read once a week, but that is probably on the low side of average. I do open it every week in church, of course! I don't really read it as often as I should (which should be every possible moment), but I do try to read other things that involve biblical teaching. I am currently in the middle of the "Left Behind" series. I cannot read this thread any longer because it will make me want to explain to people what they need to be saved!! And that would cause a debate... and I HATE debates... and I strongly dislike controversy! I want things happy here on the DIS!.......P

I used to read it more often. Then in college, I had to read the whole thing (I took both Old Testament and New Testament Studies), so I pretty much know it too well now.

I read it daily. I use a devotional along with it, and I have found the New Living Translation easiest to read and understand. I believe that Jesus is God's Son, the Bible is God's Word to us, and that the only way to salvation is through Jesus Christ. I am also not looking for a debate. There is nothing to debate.

I read it daily for devotion and study... I'm working on my Master of Divinity in seminary... I *try* to do it a devotional reading each day, but it's hard to do when you have so many study readings... plus it's hard to just approach the books from a devotional standpoint when you spend so much time studying it in an intellectual and scholarly standpoint. Trying to swap mindsets!

Regardless, it's used daily in one way or the other.

I try to read it daily, along with a devotional. I too believe it is God's word to us. I love to listen to Him.

I've been slacking off a bit lately, however.

Funny, an hour or two ago, I was sitting here, bored to tears and wondering what I should do. The first thought that came to my mind was, "I should read my Bible." Instead, I opened to the DIS and one of the first threads I saw was this one.

Needless to say, I shut down the computer and went to my Bible. I re-read the book of James. There is profound wisdom in that book about persevering in times of troubles and how to treat each other.

Very appropriate.

Never... I grew up in a non-religous household but went to catholic schools all my life, had a couple muslim boyfriends and had friends who were buddhists and hinduists.

I believe in God/Gods but I don't believe in the church.

I never read the Bible . I believe in God and the Bible - but I never think to just pick up the Bible and read from it. I am a Catholic and DD is starting Catholic school next year - so we practice a religion - I just never think to read the Bible. This is something I actually would like to change in my life.

I have lived my whole life by one rule. "Don't Hurt" Covers everything as far as I am concerned.

It is sooo funny that us Catholic school kids are the ones that got tired of it. In high school...I was self righteous..and not I look back at myself and think...what a Catholic SNOB I was!!!!

It would be interesting..but I would rather it on the debate board...not here.

Tiggerlover91 - I dont get offended..at least not easily. It is ok that you believe that and it is ok that I believe something else! That is what makes the world go round!

PS..All you sciene people dont start getting on here arguing with me about what really makes the world go round with the sun's gravitational pull and all that!

I'm not sure about the rest of the Catholics on this thread, but we did very little Bible reading when I was in Catholic school. We did have Theology classes, but there was no bible study or reading of bible passages, per se. Catholics concentrate more on the rituals. Those I know by heart.

Also, I'm old enough to remember nuns and threats of a life in pergatory -- I associate religion with that, honestly. Just one big guilt trip.

I really admire those of you who have such strong faith. I always wonder how people get to that point -- was it learned over time, or just a revelation? So far I'm not there. I believe in God but beyond that I don't have particularly strong faith. I wish I did, but it has happened yet.

Never. One of my aunts bought me a New Testament when I graduated from high school; I tried to read it just to have something to talk to her about (she was newly born again and didn't talk about much else), but - with apologies - thought it was excruciatingly boring. I've been told the Old Testament is a spicier read.

No, you are right. We never used the Bible at all. Ever.

And the threats ! OMG the threats ! Worst of all, my mother, and all her family were Protestant ( worse than prostitute to the nuns ) At the age of 6 I was told that I could go to heaven, but my mother could not. Not even sure if she could make it to purgatory. Lovely notion to put in a kid's head !

Tell me....was anyone else taught that the thing you never worried about was the one thing sure to happen? So you developed a habit of worrying about everything to protect yourself? Sheesh !
