We always go for a full week at spring break and then a couple of long (4 day) weekends in the summer. We do often go out of state to visit family, but don't include that in vacation time (both families out of state).

We are lucky enough to live 5-1/2 hours from WDW, so that is one annual trip without airfare. We also go to US for 3-4 days, and 2 weeks in Montana, which does require airfare.

If vacation requires relaxing and no planning, I guess we don't take any vacations. We don't consider it a vacation if we don't come home exhausted, with sore feet, or some amount of bruising.

Sorry, I'm another "Other." We do one 7-10 trip each summer (DH is a teacher) plus 4-5 long weekend trips through the year.

Another "other" here! We do a few long weekends (Vermont, Naples, FL), last year we didn't take a long vacation at all - just not in the cards. The year before we drove to Myrtle Beach and stayed a week with my gram (stopped for an overnight in DC to see friends), and went to Disney. This year I am hoping to do the same: MB in April over DD4's preschool break, and Disney in the fall.

I'd like to bring the girls to the Caribbean, Europe when they are much older, and get to all of the wonderful National Parks! I love Disney (and most theme parks), but we'll def. do other types of vacations as well.

I have to say, this is the first time I've ever heard anyone say they don't consider going to Disney a vacation!:confused3

Disney is a trip, not a vacation. My siblings told me Disney was a job. Always going and no resting. We just moved and walked and ate at a certain time and things like that. But they did see everything they wanted to at Disney and I got my sister to go back again the next year.

I consider a vacation somewhere we can go to relax and make no plans. Just do nothing and be happy with that. I shouldn't be so tired after a vacation that I need a vacation to recover.

Neither my husband or I grew up vacationing so we didn't know what we were missing. For years our vacations were visiting family in Iowa over the holiday!:lmao:Every once in a while we would go out of town for a medical convention!:lmao:Then I experienced a real vacation at Disney in 1999 and LOVED it! I didn't think we could afford to go again so I tried to forget how fun it was. We went back 10 years later and I LOVED it again! I said "That's it, I'm getting a part-time job to put away for vacations!" I plan to see the world! (Disney World that is!):yay:

So, my answer was one week a year.

DH totally agrees with you

I didn't see a choice that fit but we normally take one big vacation of a week or longer every year plus a few weekends throughout the year.

I voted one week a year, but I probably should have went with other. We try to do a couple of long weekends and atleast one week somewhere. This year dh is getting three weeks vacation so we are taking a two week vacation and some long weekends.

Our of curiousity do others consider "vacation" visiting family our of state? :D however that probably does account for most of our "long weekend trips"

I don't, although I enjoy visiting my family. It's a break and it stimulates my mind in some of the same ways, but it isn't relaxing in the same way as a vacation.

I've heard people say that visiting Disney isn't a vacation, and with the people IRL I've heard say it, I can understand the logic behind saying that. My childhood family vacations were much like many people's Disney vacations, where the goal of whoever's in charge seems to be to "get good use of my money" by doing everything possible. When I was a kid we'd usually rebel at some point and insist my dad either give us a day off or stop somewhere we found interesting that wasn't on the agenda, which latter are some of my more positive vacation memories.

Oddly enough, one of the few places where dad *wasn't* doing the "Rush Rush Hurry Hurry Quit Dawdling" thing on a vacation was DisneyLand, where he seemed to think that once he'd gotten us into the park his job was done, so we could do as we pleased. Unfortunately he didn't hand out maps or anything, either, and I had no real idea how to cope with that sort of situation, so while I went on a couple of rides that I enjoyed and all, my clearest memory of DisneyLand is wandering around feeling bored and wondering when we were going to get out of there. Which is more comfortable than being rushed around being bored, but apparently the guy just couldn't win when it came to me. :p

I chose "other". We do one big 7-10 day vacation a year, no expenses spared, whatever we want. Then we do several (I'd say 4-6 a year) weekend getaways a year 2-4 nights. Beach, mountains, family, NYC, Williamsburg, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, Nags Head etc. As a family, we are fairly frugal...travel is our one main family splurge.

The year we were married we did WDW and the gulf coast for two weeks, then two weeks in Bavaria. Then we had a baby.....

Now we do 1-one week family vacation. That's me, DH and DD. Last year it was Cape Cod, the two previous years it was WDW.

Then we do 1- separate vacation. DH goes cycling with his father, and DD and I go to the Jersey Shore with my parents. That usually is 3-4 days.

Then in sept we stay with his family for a week in their time share in Lake Placid.

This year we're doing 2 weeks in FL, driving from NY. We'll still do the separate thing, and the inlaw time share, so I guess I answered wrong when I said 2 -1 week vacations.

We typically vacationed 1-2 big trips a year but last year there was no vacation because we moved and were exhausted just getting everything in place for the move. This year we are spending our money on home renovations. We are finding that scheduling vacations is harder now that my dd is in high school. Dh's, mine and dd's schedules are not at all compatible since we all have big restrictions on when we can travel. We also have some big expenses coming up in the next few years, so I think our vacations will be mini ones for awhile. Dd does some travelling with friends and through school, so she should be ok though! Can't wait to get back to yearly trips !

2-3 times a year for us. It's either 2 disney or 1 disney and 2 closer to home.

We are pretty new to vacationing, but I am hoping my "system" works from now on. I would like to do one big vacation (Disney, or anywhere really that is expensive) every other year, and 1-2 cheap vacations every other year. Like in 2007 we went to FL and stayed a week at a cheap hotel and used our Busch Gardens Platnium passes for their parks. 2008 we went to KY & TN to visit family and Dollywood. 2009 First Disney trip and paid waaaay too much:eek:

So this year Ky for spring break just for family, FL in June for Busch Garden parks. Only pay for hotel (I got it for $30 a night), food, and gas. In August I will be booking Disney again for the following August and hope for free dining, but will go regardless. This is the patern I am hoping will work for us.:thumbsup2

we have a timeshare up in NC-so we go there once a week for our vacation. We normally will add a few days somewhere also depending on the time. Last year we skied for a week and spent 4 nights down in the keys.. This year we will spend a summer week up in NC and do 4 nights at disney in Nov. Just really depends on what is going on and cheep I can get the extra trip for. For instance- I booked our Nov. trip already for $210 for 4 nights at the double tree castle.. cannot beat that deal..;)

This year is very unusual for us. Usually we take one one week vacation per year and a few long weekends. This year we were planning a two week vacation in the summer (DD's graduation present) but I got so disgusted with the winter this year, I managed to eke out a spring break trip to Disney in addition. We are leaving in a few weeks. What I spend on the spring trip will come off the top from the summer trip budget and an unexpected tax return.

I voted other as our current vacation choice wasn't listed....

7-10 days at WDW each year :cool1:

2 long weekend "girls" shopping trips :dance3:

A couple long weekend trips - because we just have to get away

I have a stressful job that I love.... but getting away is about as necessary to my sanity as breathing so I don't mind spending the $ to make it happen... Vaction is so much cheaper than a therapist ;)

We've been pretty blessed to go to both DCL and WDW over the last 6 years. We are taking a break in 10 and saving our money to go back to WDW and DCL on the Dream in 2011. The rates on the Dream are really low right now and I am booking far enough out we will have time to pay it down. Also I plan on free dining being offered when we go to save so more moola! We will probably stay close to home like the Wisconsin Dells for a week get away this year.

I'm pretty wow'ed by all the vacations. Our last vacation was a one week trip to the Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina to visit family. We do a couple weekend camping things each summer but no bigger trips.

This year is going to be different since we are doing a one week trip to S.C. for my nephews high school graduation. Then in November, we're doing a 5 day trip to WDW. We may even still have a few camping weekends.
