How often do you get your carpets cleaned?

Pro or rent the machine? How often

I'm thinking about calling someone to come clean and keep seeing these $99 3 rooms kinda deal for Stanley steamers.

We bought a cleaner and do it ourselves.

We did it once a month before we got rid of almost all our carpet. I think you can rent the machine for $60 or.

We have 3 pets and 3 kids. Buying a carpet cleaner was a no-brainer. I think I hit each room once a month or so. And the water that comes out of the machine let's me know it was needed!

High traffic areas are cleaned about once a month and a complete, whole house, professional cleaning is performed once a year.

As long as you are able to say no to all of the up-selling those $99 specials will come with, you should be fine.

I don't have much carpet anymore but when I did, I often used Stanley Steemer. They seemed to get the most water extracted versus home machines, but the home machines are probably much better now.

Oh, and it was never as cheap as the $99 teaser rate. Not sure how you get that.

We bought our own as well. I do the carpeting a few times a year on a rotating schedule. We have hardwood downstairs with patterned area rugs. Upstairs we have wall to wall carpeting but we don't walk around in shoes up there very much so it stays pretty clean.

Stanley steamer is an up charge for the things needed to clean the carpet. That may not include stains, heavy soil, and all sorts of other issues. Extraction and really hot water is necessary. The machines that are rented do not have the suction power to get all the soap and residue left. Remember when you scrub it goes straight to the pad. So the suction is important to remove it all.

I have a Hoover SteamVac. I bought it when my kids were little because the machine rental costs were killing me. I do my high traffic areas (family room & study) every two months. And the whole house once a year. My kids are 19 and 17 now, so I don't have to shampoo as often as I used to.

We don't have as much carpet as we used too but as soon as we got a dog we bought our own. We still use it and have it 20 years later. No set timing on how often we use it.

Every 18 months by a professional. He doesn't leave the carpets very wet like Stanley steamer did. I pay $175 for 4 bedrooms, a hall, and stairs.

Best thing I ever did was invest in a reconditioned NAUTAVAC carpet cleaner.
It works as good as a professional machine.
Could never have survived the past few years with a boy and a dog without it!!!!

When we had carpet, we tried to have it professionally done once a year. Used ChemDry for years, didn't get the carpet as clean, but it resisted dirt better. Switched to steam cleaning for a while as the carpet got older, then got a Bissell. Now we have laminate. Despite the cleaning, it was amazing how much fine dirt like material was under the carpet after 34 years. Flooring guy said our carpet was very clean, but no cleaning system gets the dirt below the backing.

There is a local person that does my carpet and he's so reasonable. He does a better job than I would renting a machine, and he usually charges me $80 for about 4 rooms and the hallway. I call him about every 3 months.
