How often do you check prices for rental

I already have a reservation for Budget for our trip on 9/20-9/28 for $398.82for a minivan. Not sure if that's a good price so I want to keep checking on it. But how often should I check? I don't want to become obsessive about it but I don't want to miss a good price either.

Is that price at Orlando Airport?

That seems like a good price for a Minivan at an airport... was running $500+ a long time. I assume that is with taxes but no insurance.

I would check once a week and use Google to find some care rental places that are not on the big travel sites.

For chains, I have found Dollar to have good prices but their cars can be a little more beat up...

For any rental, If you don't take insurance write down all damage on the contract and get it signed by someone.

This far out, I would check every now and then, but keep my ear out for any system-wide specials rental car companies may be having. A few months out, I'd start checking once a week moving to one per day. It doesn't take much time with a website that does the checking all at once.

Also helpful are the threads on this board for car rentals in that specific month, since it splits the checking load across the membership going at that time. others will post their deals, and is a hint for me to check. If I find a good deal during a random check, I'll post it so others can benefit.

Yes, it's from the airport. I wasn't sure what a good price would be so that makes me feel better knowing it used to be much more. I did check with Dollar and it was just slightly more.

So I guess I'll keep the obsessing to just once a week. :rotfl2: And thanks for the tip about checking for damage. I didn't include insurance since my insurance covers rentals.

I checked the National website 8 or 10 days before we left and our price had dropped significantly. That seems to be the concensus - 1-3 weeks before your trip. Good luck!
