Okay.... time for a confession. The "everyday" comforter that DH and I use most of the year (we got a down comforter a few years ago we use in the winter), was bought for me in 1979 or 1980 when I was in high school. It is a plain, cream colored King sized comforter. I will admit, I didn't use it in college (twin bed), but I did use it in my apartments after college (it works well as a spread on a full bed) and DH and I have used it for our 13 years of marriage. We do have a really nice star pattern quilt that I put on when we have company and we have had that one for about 10 years (but obviously it looks like new, as we don't use it daily).

I really love my old comforter... it is soooooo soft after 20+ years of washings. But it is showing its age and does have a stain or two. But considering its age it is in remarkable shape!! I plan to use it until it falls apart!! Or at least until the kids are older and stop sitting on my bed with ice cream to watch tv or until the cat stops vomiting !! :rotfl: ........P

I buy new when my dogs tear up the current one. I've had my current one since Christmas.

I don't care what the current fashion is.

Our Laura Ashley set is about 7 yo that I really like. Still in good shape, inspite of bed hog dog.

disneyworld- I love what you picked out! I have a tropical theme in my room now, so very similar to what I have. I saved the website, thanks!

I think we change every 2-3 years. I definitely get a new one whenever we move.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a kid in my room, lying on my bed, eating, and watching TV!

Any time I even think about getting one of those expensive comforter sets I have to remind myself of the above!

I bought matching pieces - a comforter, sheets, dust ruffle and pillow cases at JC Penney about 7 years ago. The comforter wasn't coming clean when washed because of the dog sleeping with us. I loved that comforter because even though it was poly-filled it provided nearly year-round comfort. I wanted to make or buy a new cover to cover the ugly stain and tear in the middle but could never find something I liked.

We replaced the "set" this year when we bought a bigger bed. I picked up a bed-in-a-bag at WalMart and I love the plaid comforter and matching shams. It's not the softest cotton blend fabric, but it serves it purpose of keeping us plenty warm on cold nights. I keep looking for another set of sheets that will fit our mattress better, but so far I haven't found just the right fabric blend that's affordable or a set that says "buy me". For now we're sleeping on the ones that came with the comforter.

I change comforters every few years. Another poster here inspired me with the set she was getting, so I got it too! This entire set by Nautica - queen sized duvet cover, two shams, dust ruffle and the sheet set cost me 182.94 with shipping on Ebay! I'm pretty excited about it, since it would have cost me twice that at BB&B. I'm in an auction right now for the matching striped euro shams - hopefully I can win them!

they have some awesome sets Nautica does...that is my second chose...

Since our 90 plus pound Weimaraner thinks our bed is his bed too, I have to change it quite frequently as in every month.

I love the shabby chik look, and that is what I have going on right now in pretty shades of light blue.

Not as much as I'd like. Right before DH and I moved in together, he went and spent about $800 on new bedding, curtains, and coordinating bathroom accessories. I hated it, but what could I do?

We kept it for four years, and when we built this new house, I got a new set. However, I hate it now. It's that dark red and gold comforter and curtains that EVERYONE has. It's so common...

I really want to wait until I can afford some really swanky stuff. I want a featherbed topper, a new duvet, and it's going to run at least $1000. So I guess I'm stuck. I like the "hotel" bedding that Macy's carries. It goes on sale sometimes, so I'm watching it.

Every year. Though my current them is Morrocan. If anyone has any links to any good sites I would be glad of them. :goodvibes I do like that Las Plamas set on the link mentioned earlier though. :earsgirl:

I change my duvet cover every time I move, which has been every two years. The new one we registered for is an espresso colour with a white trim.

I have one that's summery(blue & yelllow floral) and one that's more wntery (blue & cranberry plaid). I've rotated between the same two for about 3 years now. Truthfully, I haven't see any lately that I like better, that will work with the dog. He gets up on the bed, so anything with a light background is out.
