How often do they do "free upgrades" at DGC?

I've read some different trip reports/etc., about guests getting upgraded at DL hotels. Does this happen often, or is this mainly a WDW thing?

We were upgraded from a nonview to a theme park view at GC for free the week of Easter! Without asking!

We were upgrade from a standard room to a DTD view during the month of June.
