If you want to buy, an want to buy direct, just call and explain. Wouldn't hurt to be specific about who it was and why you need someone new. They should know the reasons people are feeling pushed away. I won't buy anything from a pushy salesperson, and I tell a pushy salesperson at the moment so they have a chance to stop.
Our DVC guy was awesome. The opposite of pushy. Said he would be waiting for us. An 2.5 years later when we called, was waiting and happy that we called! Of course, he's not with DVC anymore, so that's sad.
You said the next day, he called late on the next day. I can see why he thought you weren't buying, if I look at it from his POV. And then you didn't buy DVC at all, were happy with something totally different, so ultimately it sounds like that was the best decision for you, yes? If we had had a pushy salesperson it wouldn't have pushed us from DVC, but just to a different salesperson.
But remember the salesperson is someone you will most likely deal with once and then never think about again. So if the product is what you want and you want to buy direct, shunning it altogether because of a salesperson (that can be changed) seems an odd decision to me.
