How often are there discounts on direct purchases?

I’ve tried finding a reliable source for historical DVC direct promotions and can’t find much.

This would be my first purchase and I would like the AP discount (that I know is not a guarantee to stick around) but for a family this savings can add up after a few years vs. buying resale.

The current promo would save me about $12/point if I buy at the VGF but points don’t stretch as far there and I’d prefer Copper Creek but it’s currently $250/point which feels ridiculous.

I’m curious how often DVC offers promotions on properties that have been around for several years like Copper Creek and Poly.(no interest in 2042 contracts.)

I’m not in a hurry to buy especially if the economy really struggles, but also don’t want to miss out on a good promo. However, I don’t have much of reference point on how this current offer compares to other offers.

Thank you!

It’s essentially random which resorts and when they will go on sale. Given that DVC was selling CCV not long ago it may be awhile before they offer a deal on it although until recently it was one of the resorts that was actively being ROFR’d. Poly just had a promotion a couple months ago so it may be awhile for that property as well.

There have been discounts ever since I can remember. They come and go but then another one comes. The prices overall do go up over time though.

Sometimes but definitely not always, there are sales at resorts from which Disney has taken more points than they can sell through ROFR.

In the current financial market, Disney just ended a promotion at AKV for $165 pp.

Also you currently have the Magical beginnings in which Disney buys back current UY points for $22 pp.

Had you been able to combine the AKV and buy back offer I would have jumped on the AKV. Then you effectively have taken the price down to $144 for direct, still leaving me with the points from 2023 UY.

If it hadn’t already passed my UY I prob would’ve felt worse about my resale AKV contract. But it’s definitely a great perk. I’m tempted to add on more RIV points next year if they’re still running the promotion.

I can’t recall seeing a CCV promo since just after it sold out.

Promos for active resorts (VGF, RVA, AUL, VDH) more or less run continuously. When this one expires a new one will almost certainly start the next day. Frequently (but not always), a new promo comes with a kicker if you buy on the promo in the first couple weeks, like an extra thousand dollars off or something like that. So the new promo is typically better (but not always) than what it replaced until the kicker expires.

I think it’s safe to assume some sort of incentive will also be available for SSR, OKW, and AKV in the next promo, but it’s impossible to predict whether or not the incentive will be any good. Incentives for other sold out resorts appear to appear randomly.

Disney is losing money like crazy right now and starting to get desperate IMO.
Disney reported quarterly earnings of $1,488,000,000 on Wednesday. Disney’s US Theme Parks made $1,519,000,000, up 10% from the same time a year earlier.

So I don’t think I would characterize it the same way as you did.

Disneyland and euro made money. Wdw lost money and a lot. They also lost millions of Disney+ subs. And lost big time in movies/media. Their stock dropped dramatically after the news and is still dropping. It’s at $92. Disney can try to spin the numbers but they had to bring back annual passes— which they still haven’t stopped selling btw. Remember how they said only limited sales lol. And they are scraping the reservation system, something they told us recently was here to stay. So, karma.

No, OMG no. Disneyland Paris isn’t included in US park profits and Disneyland isn’t remotely large enough to cover “a lot” of losses at WDW.

Here is a link to their 10-Q, it will tell you everything you need to know. https://otp.tools.investis.com/clie...gId=16641046&Cik=0001744489&Type=PDF&hasPdf=1
I already looked at that and listened to Iger’s conference call. They are a multinational. Of course their businesses around the world are all part of the same company. lol. Their stock price doesn’t lie and it’s tanking since Iger released the info. The drop— that was after the call where Iger released their “great” numbers lol

IMG_0720.jpeg They are trying to spin that’s it’s okay. Not even as great because that would be impossible. But they are on a downward trajectory unless something dramatic happens. And that’s great for people who want dvc direct deals! My call is that those deals will be there.

Ever wondered if things are as bad as they appear or get worse that Disney would try to sell of the DVC part of their business?

Len Testa dedicated a show speculating this very thought around 12 months ago. Scary thought!

I don’t see Disney selling off DVC…. They have always been a company that thrived on charting their own destiny… being beholden to Marriott Vacation Club (most likely owner), which would in turn control their land and properties (and likely needing to control very resort on the monorail loop), seems unlikely to me.

Only someone truly penny wise and pound foolish would make that decision. Chapek much more likely than Iger in my view.

If I ran Disney, I would only consider selling VB, HHI, and maybe AUL. No way on others.

Why?

They charge instant profit for management which they already do with the hotels.

They control DVC right now which is partnered with their hotels and does whatever they want.

They get to take nonbooked rooms to rent for cash and keep a good portion of cash for free.

It literally makes no sense unless Disney is selling off WDW.

Agreed.. it'd make even less sense with how many DVC buildings they've been making lately. DVC is the way for them to guarantee their rooms get filled. It provides a steady, stable income and a constant stream of visitors which is worth it's weight in gold.

If they ever find themselves unable to sell their new resorts it will be time to sell…. Assuming they can find a buyer willing to pay what it’s worth (which I kind of doubt)
