Im so confused first when I signed in like I used to for some reason it didnt like my password so I changed that and at least I got into the website

so I was able to put in the card that Ive been trasnferring other cards to but now I cant find on the website how to transfer balances

it used to be so easy and straight forward now I cant find anything

so if someone could please tell me how to transfter balances
thanks
also just curious Ive noticed on the disney card website it talks about that the GC are not a wallet and should not be treated as such--what does this all mean

Put in both gift cards - ADD A CARD at the bottom of MY CARDS. Then select the one you want to be your "main" card. Transfer the balance of card #2 to that card.

This site is not a "wallet" as in you can't pull up your gift card to pay for things from your phone. I also think it means they are not responsible if anything goes wrong with you keeping your cards on the site (not sure though).

I am not keeping my gift cards on the site. Once I transfer them, I remove them from the site and keep the physical card in a safe place. Not sure what protection I would have if the site gets hacked....I do take pictures of my cards with balances. So that if it the physical card gets lost, I can go to the website and transfer to another physical card.

YEP, @trenty has it correct. I add to my primary card with all the small amount cards, screenshot the page, then delete my primary card from the site. I too take a photo of the plastic GC and store everything safely.

I think they are pushing that message because a month or so ago they just deleted all of everyone's old cards that had been on there... they need a message that frames it as "this really isn't our problem."

It's funny to me because a few years ago, while I was at Disney, guest services recommended I keep my kids' gift cards on there so if they lost the card we could transfer the balance out to a new card as soon as we realized it- describing it as a backup wallet. It was the first and only time I had ever heard that until the recent "this is NOT a wallet" campaign. It worked well too, my daughter lost her card mid-vacation and we were able to retrieve her money for her.

What is the "this is NOT a wallet" campaign?

That was insane... there were so many people who didn't know about it also. We had over 3k in cards and luckily had put it on our trip prior. I feel really bad for the people who straight lost their money. I mean.. waking up and seeing 3k just vanish... we learned our lesson though, not doing the gift card thing for such a massive amount again.

No one lost their money! It is still on their gift cards like it always was.

They want to make sure people don't think it is like mobile wallets you can store credit cards on, and just pull it up to pay. From Invesopedia -

"A mobile wallet is a virtual wallet that stores payment card information on a mobile device. Mobile wallets are a convenient way for a user to make in-store payments and can be used at merchants listed with the mobile wallet service provider. "

Disney gift cards are not that, and have never been that.

What was the big deal then? I kept seeing people freaking out over it and sharing the situation over and over like the apocalypse was coming. lol

People are silly. Disney took down the old website where people could list their gift cards to make it easier to transfer balances around. There is a new login is all (same as the MDE login). The old cards are no longer listed, but they always told everyone to keep their physical cards, so they can re-add them to the website if they want.

From the disney GC website -

Account details prior to February 3, 2021 are no longer available. As a reminder, your account was not a mobile wallet and should not be considered as such. Always be sure to keep your physical and digital Disney Gift Cards with you as they will be required to make any purchases.

Please create a new account, or use your existing Disney account login, to now sign into DisneyGiftCard.com and enter your gift card(s) information into the My Cards section.

because they put their cards and there and then threw them away. Which is exactly what Disney has said not to do.

It is not exactly what Disney told people not to do- It was actually Disney employees who advised me that that was the best way to manage our gift cards. Disney employees are the ones that told me that if I register my cards there then when I lose a card I can always get the money back by transferring it to a different card. That was exactly why employees had advised me to register my cards.

I am certain there are people who lost money, because while you're on a trip you go you have $1,000 on a single gift card, maybe you didn't spend $50 of it. Then a year or two later you can't find that one card, so you buy a new card, consolidate them and you're all set.

With covid happening, There's really no way to know how many people had a little balance sitting there that now is just gone forever because of delayed trips. Fortunately I used the one card that we had a balance like that about a week before they deleted everyone's cards because we were paying our DVC dues.

I'm sure it's more fun to Monday morning quarterback on people though.

Actually, the information about disneygiftcard.com not being an electronic wallet and saving your primary plastic cards has been around on these boards for some time. I posted this over 2 years ago: disboards.com/threads/gift-cards.3727207/#post-60102958

That was true, and it still is true. That was why I had my cards registered. I use GC to pay for everything at Disney. You always had to have the card to pay at Disney though, you couldn't use the website to pay. Did the Disney employees tell you to register your cards and then throw them away? I don't think you can hold Disney responsible for people losing their cards. There was quite a bit of advance notice that the website was being taken down.

They told me I could, then transfer to another card later. Personally I didn't do that intentionally.
It's just silly to act like everyone's being horribly irresponsible for doing this when it was something that guest services cast members were advising people to do.

Guest services advised you to add the cards in case you lost one - which is sound advice and what many of us have suggested to new users for years. They did not say to register the card and then you would not need the physical card. The site was always very clear on what you could and couldn't do with it - you could never use the app to pay for anything. You have to use the physical card to pay for anything, this is not like the Starbucks app which let's you pay with the cards on file.
