I'll be voting at my precinct using the dreaded the punch card ballot!
Same here!
I hated it when, back in 2000, people were putting voters in FL down because they were "too stupid to figure out a punch card".
I'm in IL and we use them here too. The first time I voted, I stood there for about 5 minutes trying to figure out what line to punch for what person. And every time since I still have to go slow and really look and think about what I'm doing. For those unfamilure with this type of system, the punch holes are very, very close together, and multiple choices for multiple offices can be in a very small area of the card. The options are listed both on the right and left side of a "page" but the holes to punch are in the middle of the page, near where the binding on a book would be. So if you're looking at the left hand page, you punch to the right of the names, and if you are looking at the right hand page, you punch to left of the names. So you could easily punch one column over by mistake if you aren't careful.
I can see how a senior, who may not have the best vision, could easily make a mistake. Also, those cards are like cardboard, it takes a bit of "oomph" to get that sucker to punch through all the way, again a senior or disabled person may have some trouble. Heck, someone with carple tunnel or a broken arm or wrist may find it to be a challenge.
The moral of the story? If you are confused or are having any other kind of problem, ASK FOR HELP! That's what the volunteers and poll workers are there for.
