Just got back 2 days ago and was in 5174. It was a great location, very close to the kid's club/lab, very near the aft elevators, and had access to all of Deck 5, aft to forward on the port side...getting to the atrium was so easy! I did hear Evolution at night, but just muffled noise, not a base vibration. It sounded like I was in an apartment complex and my neighbors were having a party. This had ZERO effect on my 2 boys (ages 7 & 10). They were exhausted by the time they went to bed and fell asleep hard and fast! I had no problem sleeping from a noise standpoint. The rocking of the ship on the first night over to Nassau was the only hindrance to my sleeping...and it did NOT make me sick, just slightly anxious (and, yes I knew that the ship wasn't going to tip over). In fact, we had rough seas 2 out of the 3 nights and I was never sick (I highly recommend Motion Ease, a topical oil you put behind your ears, found at
Walmart). To be honest, I had a cocktail every night after dinner at Skyline Lounge and took 1 Ibuprofen PM at bedtime and slept like a baby in a rocking cradle! That seemed to be the perfect recipe for sleep for me. I even had a "sleep" playlist on my iPod of spa music, ready to drown out the noise, if necessary, but never needed it and I'm a light sleeper. Everyone has their own sleep remedy...just do whatever works! It honestly didn't warrant a trip to Guest Services with a complaint, and believe me, I boarded the Dream with my guns loaded after reading this thread! I honestly think if your kids are dog-tired at the end of the day, like mine were, the Evolution noise will not bother them. So, I actually disagree with the ones who think Deck 5 aft is a poor choice for families. I hope you all have a wonderful cruise and enjoy this beautiful ship!
