Ok, My budget gurus....How much would you tip for a $300 pizza delivery to an elementary school party?

Thanks in advance!
Kim

Thanks everyone who responded! It was very interesting to see all the different responses. I ended up meeting the driver at the front door of the school. Several of us helped him carry the pizzas from his car to a cart that was stationed right inside the door.
I ended up tipping him $40 and he seemed very happy.

Wow! That is a little bit more than I was expecting.
I did find a tipping guide online that stated on large delivery orders it is acceptable to tip 10% but I did not want be unfair to the driver.

I started to say $20-$25. But, $300 sounds like a lot of pizzas. How many pizzas will it be? 30 ish? How many trips from the car to the school? I think there will be multiple drivers, really. I'd say $25 per driver (assuming two). Maybe you could have a few folks meet the driver and help carry them into the building?

I normally tip 20% for waiters/waitresses at restaurants & other services (like hairdresser) but not for pizza delivery. I'd probably tip $40 on a $300 order.

There is a total of 43 pizzas. In the past, it has only been one driver and we do help him bring them in to the main office (right by front door)

I think that if the pizza is hot and on time then the driver should be tipped 20%. The bill is bigger because he/she is doing more work. It seems rather unfair that they would do more work but receive less in tips because you seem to have over stretched your budget. Like others have said at various times tips should be considered part of the cost of ordering out. Plus I am confused why the question was asked if you already knew how much you wanted to tip......

I'd still do 20%....and something to think about: Is it just the one delivery guy bringing 30 pizzas, or will there be a few more delivery guys helping?

I would be more inclined to tip on the high end (20%) especially if I knew there was going to be more than one delivery person. They would have to split the tip....:thumbsup2

I don't tip 20% for delivery, nor does anyone I know, and I live in the delivery capital of the free world.

It is one trip - meaning he's got to make the single run and go back, not able to make a bunch of stops - and a bunch to load and unload. So I'd tip like $20, maybe $25 cause it's the holidays.

I think $50 - 60 for delivering one load of pizzas is kind of bananas, and honestly, I'm a good tipper! Never below 20% in a restaurant and the local delivery people seem to like me just fine.

$30 max I would say and I also consider myself a good tipper. For $30 though I would have someone go and pick them up.

Wow, I am usually a pretty good tipper, but not so much when it comes to pizza delivery, I guess.
I would only tip $20. Maybe $30 since it's the holidays.
I've had pizza delivered to school for a party, but it's usually only about $100, and I've tipped $20. OK, that's 20%, but I just can't fathom paying a $60 tip for pizza delivery. I thought my $20 was pretty darn generous. :confused3

I always tip 20% for pretty much everything, cabs, hairdresser, restaurants, pizza delivery... etc. So I would tip $60. My husband on the other hand :lmao: disagrees, I think he's 20% for everything BUT pizza delivery, which he does a buck or two per pizza and since I disagree I usually arrange to do the tipping.

The 20% on everything is just ... I mean I got groceries delivered today, should I have tipped $20 for someone delivering $100 worth of groceries a couple blocks? Grocery delivery guy would be the best gig in town.

Dry cleaning? Should you tip $10 for someone delivering like 4 pieces of clothing?

It'd just be nuts if you tipped 20% on deliveries, we'd all go broke, really fast!

Four people order sandwiches at lunch, comes to $10 a piece, they're supposed to tip $8 or $10 (after tax) to the delivery guy? I guess grocery delivery would only be the second-hottest gig in town.

I cannot even IMAGINE what people would be tipping the kid from the liquor store! :scared1:

I agree with you, but I have to ask - the KID from the liquor store?:scared1:

Heh, yes, 7-year-olds all over town tote crates of booze and little paper bags of vodka under cover of darkness.

I dunno how old they are specifically, but liquor store delivery guys do seem to be (look?) younger, probably because there's more heavy lifting.

They do deliver a bottle of whatever, especially at night, but they also deliver lots of cases of wine and booze, which are heavy. If you're hiring someone may have to tote 3 cases of liquor up three flights of stairs multiple times a day for very little pay, teenager seems like a likely hire.

Groceries are heavy too, those guys tend to be older, I dunno, I guess groceries can be lighter or heavier but most booze orders are heavier... I dunno! :confused3
