Well hey, I figured it would be asked before long.

I'm really peeved about this subject. I've been waiting for over 6 months to buy my smaller dog a nicer kennel. His is falling apart, and he's getting too big for it. There's a $220 one that I want, but I've been waiting for my discount to come through. Being an employee of a partner of PETsMART, we get a 30% discount every year during specific dates between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I've been asking the PS managers since Thanksgiving when the discount would be given, and they didn't know. Wouldn't you know it, I leave for my 3-day weekend (which is my normal time off every other weekend since I work long hours), and they gave the discount while I was gone, with NO notice. Last year, they gave us at least a week's notice. I am thinking about calling the corporate office; a bunch of employees missed out just because they were off during the 2 days of the discount. ARGH! I also wanted some cat beds & a special litter box, and I was going to stock up on pet food. So, I missed out on well over a $100 discount. Gee, THANKS for the Christmas gift, pet"SMART." Do you think I should complain?

So... I was probably going to spend $200-280 after discount; not sure now. The same would be $300-400 regular price. Of course, I've got no kids, no SO, and a family that doesn't spend much on Christmas.

yes, I would complain and be upset also. I'll be getting them a big tub of catnip (their favorite thing in the world) and some new bowls. So I guess $20.00.

This is my first Christmas without Max, so there will be nothing for him but silent prayers.

Normally we would fill his stocking with toys and treats and his grandma would fill his stocking at her house with the same.

RIP Max

I was so focused on Max I forgot to say.....

I would be upset about the discount too, especially since you inquired about it. Since others missed out too, I would definitely file a complaint and see if they can make an exception for those who were off and didn't know about it. Good luck.

I spend about $40 each on their birthdays, and about $50 (total, they have to share) on Christmas. We have two dogs, a cocker spaniel and a silky terrier. They get Three Dog cakes for bdays and Christmas, plus a stocking of chewies and toys, and a new sweater (yes, I am one of 'those' people). Then we usually get one "big" thing each Christmas too. Last year they got new beds. This year I am looking for a tunnel for them to play in (they love to play hide and seek). DH wants a "dog translator"-- whatever! They also get a McDonald's cheeseburger on bdays and Christmas.

Sorry about the discount fiasco, that is rotten!

And Mary Jo, why is that cat's tag flashing like that? He is a cute kitty, but he makes me think of a stop light! Every time I see your sig, I think "there's the stoplight cat!"

That sucks about the discount! They ought to know employees look forward to (and need!) that.

We spend around 20 on Duncan, give or take a few. This year he's getting a stuffed raccoon and two minty tennis balls. I've got them in his stocking and that raccoon is always mooning me. Duncan's grandma (my mom) will usually send a toy and some treats and his uncle (my brother) might send a toy. My great uncle got him a Lenox china bone ornament with his name on it the first Christmas we had him. That stays out year round. :)

Last year my friends sent him some rawhide bones. I'd get hime more, but he has a ton of toys. He's not spoiled or anything. ;)

YES! Complain about the discount!!

Tarra Lee...your post just cracked me up ...so cute, especially the cheeseburger!

My three cats are getting a joint stocking mostly 'cause the kids like to give them something..my cats just don't care for "toys". Their real present is playing with the boxes, wrapping, drinking from the Christmas tree water and Jack's special gift is being allowed to sleep on the dining table with all the decorations.

That stinks!!! Yes, complain, tell them how upset you are & how you've been waiting for so long & really needed that kennel.

That really is so unfair & you are entitled to that discount, regardless of whether you were there on that partiular day or not, you are still an employee of the company.

Lousy lot they are:(

Oh & our beloved pooch is getting some Marrowbone Sausages for Christmas

:D

I still have to go shopping for Kitty (yes that is his name, he has about 1,000 nicknames so all he really knows is Kitty  :) )

I wanted to do something a little bigger this year like a smaller cat tree (usually it is just some toys and treats). I guess I will make my decision when I actually go shopping. :o

I don't have any pets, but I buy treats for my Mom's dogs and send it to them. :)

I would also complain about the missed discount. That really stinks! :(

Not only do we buy presents for our pugs, but I make dog biscuits with the kids for them and for presents for our doggie friends. In my family, we exchange gifts with all of the pets, too, so I bought Fred, Brigette, and Winston a stuffed toy and I still have to pick up a kitty toy for Pierre.

Yes, you should complain. I would be mad and disappointed too.

We spoil our pets year-round so they don't get anything special at Christmas. . .although I'm considering buying an electric blanket for my elderly kitty to lay on. They are cheaper than the special warming beds the pet stores sell.

He gets lots of toys!!! I won't tell you how many......but he gets lots. I wrap all of them up, Santa brings them Christmas eve and he LOVES to unwrap them. That is one reason why they NEVER go under the tree. He also likes to unwrap presents under the tree that aren't his every once in a while!!!! It is very cute. Now, people who have watched him unwrap a present, bring him little wrapped presents just to see him unwrap them. He never gets his toys all at once and they do seem to last throughout the year!!! Can you say spoiled little boy in a fur coat?????

I too would be mad about not getting your discount, and I would definately say something!!! Good luck with that!!!

I'll spend about $10 for stocking stuffers for each cat. Nothing makes them happier than empty boxes to play in, so I get off pretty cheap. :)

tuna for the cats, rabbit toys and dog treats for the various critters:)

We went to Petsmart yesterday to do the pets Christmas shopping. We have a jack russel, a pomeranian mix, a cat, and two parakeets. None of them needed any large items like kennels or anything so I just got the dogs new squeaky toys, booda velvet bones, treats, and peanut butter stuffed bones. The cat just got a small mouse and the parakeets got some seed treats. It all cost a little over $100.

I always want to get my dogs those nifty pre-filled stockings they have at Target and Walmart, but the rubber toys in them are SO flimsy, and I have 2 big chewers. Who'd have thought that something as little as a Boston Terrier needs the toys for "strong chewers"??? But he does. And, well, the German Shepard, that's a given. And those toys are more expensive. So I'll probably spend $20-30 per dog. Not sure what I'm getting yet, gotta go look at PetCo, or the new Petsmart they just put in. Cow hooves will definitely be included though, those are their favorites (but I hate them! They stink! But it's Christmas.....) I may get Willow (my Shepard) a new bed for her crate. She ate the last one, but she loved it!. If we put anything soft in Dexter (the BTs) crate, he just potties on it. Yuck. The cats......eh, they are not big fans of toys. I may spend $20 total on the 4 of them together. Their big present will be me making dh NOT clean up the boxes and paper the very second they are out of the kids hands, so the cats have time to play with them.

Oh yeah, and definitely raise a stink about the discount! That was unfair to not tell you in advance!

This is my first Christmas with my puupy Jake, so I'm not really sure what I'm going to spend on him. I'm very curious to see how he handles Christmas though. I think the tree and the presents might be a huge temptation for my little chewer. Any advice on how to keep dogs from destroying the tree?

Yes complain, I hope they come through for you. I've found that complaining in the past about expired coupons or missed sales usually works out with me getting the discount. Especially if I explain I'm a good customer.

The labbie is getting some new squeaky toys, a new bone, some special treats. We get squeakies at dollar store. I'll spend $20 on him tops. He loves getting gifts, he knows there are treats under all that paper. He sniffs the pile until he finds his.

All three horses, the dog and cat have received their annual physicals and vaccinations - I think that's enough of a gift for them!!!
