How much weight...??

I want to know this too :bitelip: . Just how many of my "fat clothes" should I pack, lol ;) . I just read an adorable trip report last night of a lady on the wonder and she gained 5. Hope that doesn't mean I will gain 10 :scared1: , then nothing would fit.

I think alot will depend on what your nornal routine is. I sit at a desk all day and don't get as much excercise as I know I should.
On our seven day Western aboard the Magic in November I stayed the same weight despite a late dinner seating at a table with just DS, DW and myself and having a waiter bringing us every desert to sample. I think the extra walking that was done on shore made up for the food. DW on the other hand is a nurse and is normally on her feet all day and she gained a few pounds during the cruise.

I plan on doing alot more excercising on our 11/6/04 western Magic cruise since I have lost 35 pounds since our return and hope to reach my 75 pound goal by the time we leave.

The bottom line is enjoy your trip there is plenty of time to worry about your weight when you return home.

I also gained about 4 or 5 pounds on our 7 day. I ate ANYTHING I wanted though.

4 - day = 4-5 lbs -- I took the stairs and walked the deck but ate whatever I wanted. I am an Atkins guru normally so my total of 6 days (in the day before and then returning) was about 5 lbs. Just went back on strict Atkins for two weeks and I was back to normal. Remember though, I ate anything I wanted when I wanted.

To help offest the inevitable weight gain:

Always take the stairs UP and down.

Try to walk a mile or more a day on deck 4 (3 or 4 laps depending upon what the sign says on your cruise:teeth: - yes, there is some controversy here).

Cut down on the amount you eat for lunch (after the first full day (starting on Monday) I usually only grab some fruit (and a chocolate chip;) cookie from scoops))

Especially in the summer it is hot and humid, so I would be taking loose fitting clothes to begin with.

I gained 7 pounds on our cruise. But that was after being on the South Beach diet for six weeks before we left. My system wasn't used to all that sugar and all those carbohydrates! But I didn't let that stop me! I enjoyed eating whatever I wanted since I was on vacation. I did take the stairs as much as possible. Since I've been home and back on the South Beach diet, I haven't had a problem losing the weight again.

Eat as much as I want and never gain a pound. Been like this ever since DS6 was born. - Mike

I gained 7 lbs. and worked out in the gym? Some of it will come right off (3lbs.) and then you pay. But I did eat a lot!!

Mike, that really stinks for the rest of us!!! Just kidding, good for you.

I gained about 3 pounds on our 7 day. I ate 1/2 what was on my plate with the exception of dessert (ate every bite of that!). I usually snacked on some ice cream during the day, and had a few things from Plutos/Pinnochios during the day. Hey, it was vacation!

I must be in the minority - I ate what I wanted and lost both times 3-4 pounds. I think I ate more sensibly and smaller portions of the junk kind of stuff though.

tkd Lisa - Thought I would get a response. Actually if anyone were willing to give me about 4 or 5 lbs, I would be willing to take them. Iv'e been stuck at 160 for the last 6 years. Not complaining though. Maybe I need to eat more Ice Cream! My DW also gains about 3 to 4 lbs and gives me a hard time as I swear I am not a light eater. I just think my metabolism is changing as I get older. - Mike

I agree that it really varies depending on the person and the circumstances.

Two months before our second cruise, I injured my knee rather seriously during a skiing accident (spent a month on crutches, it was a bad scene:( ), so while on the ship, I couldn't do as much of the stair walking and basically had to use the elevator all the time. I gained 5 pounds on a 7 day Eastern.

On our last cruise (7 Day Western), I took the stairs everywhere, and I was the one who would offer to run back to the room if someone forgot something. I stayed the same weight, and ate like a pig.

One hint for taking the stairs, keep your foot absolutely flat on the stair. When you push up, you are actually exercising your leg muscles more, than if you walk more on the ball of your foot. I know it sounds rather abstract, but the next time you walk up the stairs, walk normally and then try walking keeping you feet flat and you'll notice a difference

Ok, who wants to share how much weight they gained on a 7 day, want to be prepared for the worst!

EEEK! *hiding* Ummmm.....Errr......I actually lost 8 pounds.

I took the stairs everywhere, and walked Deck 4 a few times a day to keep my blood sugar down (I am a diabetic) but I ate what I wanted.

after loosing 42lbs before I got onboard the ship I can honestly say I gained NOTHING

1) I really don't gain weight at DCL.
2) However, I have noticed an effect of ocean water.
3) When exposed to sea water, my clothes shrink about 1".
4) Fortunately, after 2-3 weeks of home washing, they go back.

(THAT'S MY STORY AND I'M STICKING TO IT.)

The first 7-day in 2002, I gained five. In 2003, I gained eight! The good news is, the weight literally started falling off the day after we arrived home. (As I normally do not eat as much on a daily basis as I did on the cruise, it probably is the same for everyone else, as far as losing the weight.)

I now make it a point to try to lose 5-8 lbs. before our trip, in anticipation of the weight gain.:D

Enjoy yourself. The wonderful food is my favorite part of the cruise!

I found that I tend to lose weight during cruises - honest. I don't care much for desserts, but will try them. I eat what I like but don't overdo it.

Mom goes crazy over desserts and she averages a few pound gain each cruise, but then comes home and loses it quickly.
