how much weight did you gain at WDW??

I have been lifting for 10 years. Going real heavy doesn't burn as many calories or build as much muscle as lifting for reps in the 8-10 range. The heavier you lift, the less reps you can do and the less blood is pumped into the muscles. However, if pure strength is your goal, then heavy lifting is the way to go. I do agree with one thing though. After a week of eating at WDW, the carb overload and subsequent muscle rest will give you the energy needed to have really productive lifting sessions.

DH is really into lifting, so he keeps me informed. He prefers to lift heavy, because it is more about strength to him than body composition. Even though he could probably get bigger by lifting smaller amounts of weight, he chooses not to. Not that he is not big, because he is. Huge muscles do not always equal strength at least from what he tells me. The OP can try it your way too as long as she lifts and does not just do cardio. She should take advantage of those calories.

Leaving in 30 days - on DxDP for the first time. I've recently lost 35 lbs (still have more to lose) and am trying to at least maintain while we are at Disney for a week. At the same time, I want to give myself a little slack to eat what I like (fried food junkie), and eat some of those desserts! I know we will be doing a ton of walking each day and I doubt I'll have much time to get a work out in otherwise. I recently went to Seattle and ate junk all week and did a lot of walking, but not nearly as much as we will do at Disney, and I didn't gain anything. I'm not counting on the same luck at WDW  How much did you gain if any, and do you have any tips??

popcorn:: :eek:

Congratulations on loosing weight.

For the last two years when we went to Disney, my DH gained over 30lbs and bloated up like a Michelin Tire Man. DH eats a low sodium diet at home and even though he tried not to drink much soda or eat much with sodium he still had issues. Some of our issues were that DS sometimes only wanted burger and fries and we went to the nearest place available. We also think there may be a difference in sodium content in foods there than up here (in sodas).

Within one week he lost the weight but only by pharmaceutical means. He took some of my dad's medication for water retention and it was all gone. It was mostly water.

I am a park commando type person, thus we walked our behinds off, so the only difference was our food choices for those times. I didn't gain anything but he did.

The next time we go we want the Deluxe Dining Plan to help with our food choices and give some of the appetizers or part of our meals to our growing DS if he wants them.

I wish you a wonderful, and healthy vacation. Enjoy.

Congrats on your weight loss. I've lost 85 lbs myself, so I know it's not easy.

I gain about 1lb a day when in WDW. I usually go to the gym for 75 mins a day, so even touring commando style it's still less exercise than I'm used to. Oh well, it's water weight, right?

Wow thats amazing!!! Congratulations to you!!! And yes, all water weight. There are no calories at Disney World!

Congratulations to everyone who lost weight. I did too. But while on vacation we did the Wild Africa Trek & I had to step on the scale & ......:scared1:
something happened....it's just water retention (maybe!) popcorn::

I'm going to agree with several PP. I work out 5 days a week and work pretty hard. With that said, I don't feel like the weight I gain takes as long to get off when I get back home. Once I go back to eating normally and working out like I usually do, I lose it easily. :thumbsup2

I usually don't gain weight while at Disney but end up losing instead. Probably from all the walking, and my husband and I split snacks and some meals because neither of us are big eaters.

We did the DxDDP for 9 days/8 nights recently. All three of us had lost 25-50lbs before the trip. I gained the most at 4lbs during the trip.

We all agreed we would eat what we wanted without limits but we would also stay away from sugary drinks -none of us drink soda but we all have a slushie weakness- and we would make sure if we could take the stairs we would and walk instead of using other modes of transportation.

None of us kept up the low-carb diets during the trip but we also found we did not have the desire to clean our plates either. We ate/tasted what we wanted and did not feel guilty about pitching out the rest. We shared a lot of snacks so we all had the opportunity to taste a lot of different things rather than consuming a giant cookie ice cream sandwich individually each day.

After about 3 days at home back to low-carb and back at the gym my weight returned to its pre-Disney state.

Have a great trip!

I spent 3 weeks at Disney last Nov and lost 1lb. Not much haha, but it wasn't a gain! I don't normally exercise at home so walking helped. We were on the normal dining plan and I just made sensible choices for the table service. For the quick service we tried to avoid the burgers but I certainly didn't deprive myself!

Nothing. And I ate enough to get stuck in Rabbit's front door...easily! :lmao: All the walking definitely burned off all the dining plan desserts and extra indulgent snacks.

Just got back from a week of Deluxe dining and I thought I had gained at least 10 pounds. It was only 2 pounds but with all the food I felt bloated. I did a ton of walking and a ton of sweating so that probably helped. I've been back 2 days and already have lost that bloated feeling.

Last time we went, rented a house with my family (all 12 of us), and they went food shopping every day, and brought in so much junk I couldn't believe it. With eating that, and eating at Disney, and off site, I gained 3 pounds. The trip before that, we stayed on site, and I stayed exactly the same weight wise. Next trip is this coming October - I'll let ya know!

We were at WDW for three weeks. Ate 3 TS meals a day and I lost weight (about 11 pounds)! From all of the walking I expect. Whilst we ate 3 TS meals a day, we did not have a lot of snacks in between meals. WDW is my weight loss plan, I need to go back :rotfl:

Well, sad to say we just returned and we were on the DDP....I NEVER eat dessert or drink soda but found myself doing it on vacation. I would never eat a bagel with cream cheese at home (too many carbs) but ate one everyday on vacation. I even indulged in those delicious Dole Whip Floats....

We walked a TON! And I even went out of my way to take the "longer routes" and willingly went alone to get fast passes for us just so I could run...:rotfl:

However......I gained 3.5 lbs! Not happy...but, I know I will lose it in a week....just being back on schedule.

Just returned this past Tuesday from a one week visit. I normally don't gain any weight at Disney World, but this time I gained about 3 pounds and was not happy! Four out of the eight days we only ate one meal a day and we never eat snacks while there. I only drank unsweetened ice tea at the parks and would have one or two mugs of Coke each evening at the resort. We had three buffet lunches and dinner at 'Ohana, but I never eat that much at buffets. Did not like seeing the scale go over 120 lbs when I got home.

First off, congrats on your 35-pound loss. That is great! I just recently hit the 75 pounds lost mark on my weight-loss journey, so I understand your anxiety.

That said, we just got back and I gained 4 pounds while there. I typically work out 6 days a week, jogging a 5K for 3 of those days, so the walking was not really a workout at all for me. I did go out and jog or walk 3 mornings while we were there - once for almost 4 miles and twice for about 2.5 miles. Towards the end of the week, sleep became more important than working out since we worked a lot of the late EMHs.

Anyway, for me it was the combination off not getting in my normal amount of exercise and too many pieces of cheesecake that did me in .... BUT, I planned on gaining while there. My diet goal before the trip was to get below 145 pounds, which I did, to give me some bounce-back room. I wanted to be able to treat myself while at Disney - Wolfgang Puck pizza, a Dole whip, etc. There were foods I wanted to eat again or try for the first time - and I got them while we were there.

So - my advice is to not go too crazy trying to be 100% good - enjoy in moderation and have a great time on your trip! :)
