Hello!

Hubby and I are taking our daughter (age 9), neice (age 9) and
nephew (age 8) this November.

We will be visiting the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and MGM.

We are saving up for spending money and wanted to know how much money
we should bring each day for food.

We plan on eating breakfast at our hotel each morning and grabbing 1 meal in each day in the parks, and getting 1 snack.

Thanks for the input!!!

I think it really depends on whether or not you plan to do all counter service places or have some sit down meals. Will all of the kids eat kids meals or are one or more of them big eaters? My 9 year old did fine on most of the kids meals and snacks in between-and he is a BIG eater with Mega fast metabolism and solid muscle! At home when we go to restaurants we now have to usually get him the regular adult portion meal, but at WDW he did pretty good with the kids meals. The kids meals with the chicken nuggets are small though. Anyway, we usually take $50 per adult, and $30 for each child per day which includes 3 counter service meals and 2 snacks a day and one extra drink and then we figure any sit down meals seperate. We have always been prepared with this configuration. If we skip the sit down meals we have planned we have the extra money for other stuff, and if we don't plan any, then we have the money we set aside which is usually plenty. For our family of 4 this works out to $160 a day, but it can be done on less if you also supplement with snacks and drinks in the room. On our last trip of 7 nights we spent $800 total for all meals (inlcuding one sit down at Ohana that was $100) because we had wegoshop deliver a bunch of snacks and drinks to our room for about $45 plus the $15 delivery charge. It saved us a ton! We averaged about $70 a day for the 4 of us and we also picked up souviners here and there! Still, I would budget for the max and then if you have extra all the better!

we'll be there for a week in September and are planning $800 for food for two adults.

We just went for a week and got the MYW dining plan for a total of $420 for the both of us for 6 nights/7 days. Even if we didn't get the dining plan I would have budgeted about $500 for a week. $800 I guess if you eat a lot of sit-down meals. If I wasn't on the dining plan though I'd limit myself to only 2-3 sit-down meals in that week so I didn't have to spend so much money.

Ive been on trips to Disney with my parents and with my fiancee (and with all three of them!) and each time is different.
It all depends on how important having sit-down meals is to you, food preferences, etc.
There are also tips on how to save money on your food budget that can found here, mousesavers, etc.

Allearsnet.com gives you menus from most disney restaurants and that can be a big help too!

To give you an idea of how varied food costs can be....on DF and I's first trip we budgeted for a week about 150 bucks a day for the two of us. Everyday we had a small breakfast, counter service lunch, sit down dinner, and plenty of specialty drinks and snacks.

On our next trip we were more budget conscious and got away with about 70 bucks a day. We would eat breakfast in our room (pop tarts, fruit, bagels, etc) have a sit down lunch where we would often split the meal itself or at least the drink, and an offsite sit down dinner (pizzeria uno, macaroni grill, chilis, etc) and a couple drinks and snacks.

If your 1 meal in the park is a counter service meal, I would budget $10 per person and for a snack w/drink I would budget $5 per person for a total of $75 per day for the 5 of you. (I would make sure I had a little more then that with me just in case) If the kids eat off the kids menu or share meals that will bring down the amount.

If you were planning on the 1 meal being a table service meal, your amounts will vary based on which restaurant and time of day. If you eat at a TS for lunch it is cheaper then dinner.

I think we will go with the easy counter service meals, as the kids
will prefer to roam arround the park over a sit-down meal.
Plus the money we save eating at the counter will allow for more spending in the shops!!! (he he)

Thanks again to all!!! :sunny:
