OK Everyone - We went to WDW in 2003 and had a blast. Unfortunately, we didn't prep our legs before we went, so we were "done" by noon everyday. Fortunately the parks were empty, so DW and I were able to see most of what we wanted to see (no kids).

So on to my question - how much walking does everyone do to prep for this? Yesterday, we started walking around our subdivision for about an hour.

Thoughts? :listen: :teeth:

We usually walk 10-15 miles a day at WDW. Sometimes more, sometimes less. You should get a pedometer (they have them for $4 at walmart). I walk at home usually 6 miles at a time and that doesn't bother me. I would start small and you'll be surprised how you can build your endurance. I used to think walking a mile all at once was a lot and now it feels like nothing.

I read somewhere that the average person walks 16 miles a day on their WDW vacation. It seemed like an awful lot to me, :confused3 but maybe it is that much and we just don't realize it because we're having so much fun. But I say, keep on walkin'.

Last time we went I Tae-Bo'd every day to prepare and I was in pretty good shape, but the Tae-Bo did nothing to help me with the walking and my poor legs were screaming at me every night!! The Tae-Bo is better to help me re-shape my upper body (where I'm the biggest), but I need something for my legs this time, so I'm combining walking and Tae-Bo. Hopefully, the two together will be a good combination.

Miles 4 times a week and still wear down at WDW :goodvibes :wizard: :wave2:

I think the important thing is to have some kind of exercise program going...walk, run, bike, climb hills, climb steps...just get your muscles loose and your blood flowing.

My wife and I run 4 or 5 miles every morning (even when we're at WDW) and walking around the parks has never bothered us.

Good luck!

I work in a hospital the walk in disney does not bother me. I average 3-4 miles a day on average at work. :cool1:

If you walk an hour to 1.5 hours a day for a few weeks before your vacation, I'd say you'll be fine. There's not really a great way to prep for Disney, it's not constant walking, it's just the randomness of walking, standing in line, sitting down, walking, standing in line, sitting down, walking, standing in line, sitting down...alot of walking back and forth with fastpasses, etc.

I think the best way to handle the walking is to have comfortable shoes! Make sure you take several pairs as backups. I have taken shoes that have been very comfy and they end up killing me half way through the trip! I also start my day with 2 advil right of the bat! And I would think that taking some nice walks and doing some strength training exercises like squats would help with those leg muscles.

DH & I walk 2 miles per night to prep for WDW. We go, go, go when we are there though, so we are still usually tired by night's end.

Might I suggest that folks may want to do that, all the time, rather than just before their vacation? ;)
