The appointment value is $75 - I have a gift certificate but already know to tip the stylist on the cost, not the $0 that I paid :), so +/- $15. Hair is a few inches below my shoulders. Does the shampoo person get tipped separately? My bank is in the same strip mall, so I can get cash before I go in. In about two hours. Thanks!

I do when I'm at a high end salon and the shampooer is not the stylist. For a $75 cut, I tip $3. If she does a long massage or extra services like she has to do extra conditioning that requires extra time or attention like combing through hair, I'll give $5.

Make sure you repeat her name as she introduces herself. Then she knows you will remember her and not just think of her as a drone. I usually get the longer massages when I do that. ;) Then I tip her at the end. The salons usually provide a little money envelope up at the cashier's desk. I usually write down their names with a "Thank you! :)" and either hand it to her as I'm leaving, along with giving my stylist her tip, or drop it in the tip box. Although, I often worry that the cashier may pocket a few of the shampooers' tips, since it's never clear whether they are going to get tipped or not. :(

Thanks Imzadi. This is a high endish place, several steps above SuperCuts. I'm assuming the assistant shampoos, since there are two on staff (gotta love Google :) which wasn't as successful on this question). I may need to tip the stylist more - I did a recent hack job myself. Cut off about ten inches.

Even at cheap places, I think it's appropriate to tip a separate shampoo person a buck or two.

For myself I tip shampoo a minimum of 5.00- when my daughter gets her hair done I tip between 10-20 to shampoo girl because she has her work cut out for her, my daughter gets numerous processes and thst poor shampoo girl has her hands in my daughters hair over and over again for hours.

If it's just a regular wash, probably about $3-5. If there's more to it like color or special conditioning treatment I'll go $5-7. It depends on the overall prices at the salon.
