I am not sure how much is considered appropriate to tip mousekeeping (at a value resort)? I would hate to under tip. Also do you tip nightly or at the end of stay? I would guess nightly...

Okay, while I am at it. I have never been in a cab where I paid for it (rode in them lots with my parents)- so how much do I tip a cab driver (just in case I need to know)?

We always tip $3 a night, no matter where we stay. That may not be the norm, but that is what my family and I always tip. Also, we tip every morning since the mousekeeping staff changes frequently, especially between weekends and weekdays. If you wait til the end of your trip, someone who only cleaned your room one weekend day may get a huge tip while the person who cleaned your room the other 10 days will get gipped.

Only 3 more days!!!!!!!!!!!

Haley,
Tips are fairly standard: a couple of dollars a day, and given each day. (Yes, the mousekeeping staff does change, so it's nice to remember each one this way.) And don't forget to tip the person who brings your bags (a dollar a bag would do.)
Taxis everywhere except in New York expect 15%. It's easy enough to calculate - take off one digit, and that's ten per cent. So if your fare is 60 dollars, 6 dollars would be ten percent, and 9 dollars would be the 15% tip.

We tip 5.00 a day for our family of 5.We always make our beds up and gather all of the trash, roll all the dirty towels together.
(i dont feel the maid should have to come in with a back hoe).
Tipping everyday means the person that cleaned your room
that day will get the tip rather than her having one day off which just happens to be your check out day so a maid that does your room as a check out gets a week in tips.

Tinkgirl's reply is right - and I should have added to my post that our "standard tip" of two dollars per day is based on there being the two of us. A dollar a day per person is the rate - and Tinkgirl's 5 dollars for a family of five is spot on.

She is also right about giving the mousekeeping some help. My wife worked in a hotel when she went to the university, and you wouldn't believe some of the stories she has to tell about how messy people can be - and it is these same people who can really start riding you if everything is not perfect after the room has been made up.

But then - no one who believes in the magic and goes to WDW would even think of leaving their room in a mess, now would they? :earsboy:

I'm on vacation and I will NOT clean my room to help the maids. I do however tip $5 for my family of 4 and pile dirty towels in one place. That's it. No other cleaning. I refuse and I don't care what anyone thinks!:teeth:

I usually tip a dollar per person today. When I travel alone, I tip $2 per day. I try to tip every day, but sometimes I forget.

As for taxis, since most of the runs are pretty cheap, I tend to tip the change plus a dollar for a ride under $10, and the change plus a $2 for a ride over $10. For example, if the fare is $4.50, I will give the driver $6. If the fare is $12.50, I will give the driver $15. If the driver has to handle luggage, I throw in an extra dollar per large bag or two small bags. If a driver doesn't go the way I request, or takes me for a ride to run up the meter, he gets nothing.

We tip $5.00 per day, for our family of three, regardless of the resort (value, moderate, deluxe) we are staying in.

I tip $1 per person per day every day. I pay in cash (not Disney Dollars) and I usually leave it on the bathroom vanity in the area between the sink and the edge of the vanity. Sometimes I use the "Mousekeeping" envelopes if I remember to stuff them ahead of time :).

Every once in a while the maid will not take the $$, so I just add more the next time with a note.

Thanks guys. This is clearly the place to come for information. I think I will start saving $1's now and stuff those envelopes way ahead of time. One less thing to worry about later on. Mykids are as excited as I am, so they will enjoy decorating the envelopes with Mickey stickers.

As many have already stated...we tip $1 per person a day. So for the 4 of us it's $4 per day. We usually put it in a "Mousekeeping" envelope and leave on the bathroom vanity. However, on our visit we just returned from we put the $$ in a little red stocking that I had decorated before we went. I used farbic paints and wrote Mousekeeping on the top of the stocking and then wrote Thank You 2003 on the bottom part of the stocking. I also added a hershey kiss or two and a candy cane. I just thought it was a cute idea since Christmas at WDW had already started.

Also this is the amount we tip no matter where we stay.

We tip $5 daily for two adults and one child. We are very neat people so the maid doesn't have to do too much. That is probably why we get our sheets changed daily. For the last 3 trips to the Poly are sheets were changed every day!

And don't forget, if you get the chance, to thank the maid in person. We met our maid form the WL last week (same one all week), and expressed our thanks. She was great. We came back, sometimes by mid morning, to a clean room and a new towel animal everyday. We got an angel, a dog, an alligator and some smaller animals including a couple mice!!! We tipped a dollar per person per day but when we found she would be there all week, we left a little extra on the last day.

We tipped $1 per person per day at the ASMu. We always left it in a decorated envelope on the bathroom mirror along with writing "Thanks" along with our family's name. One day we asked for extra pillows with a little note on the envelope and we received the pillows immediately. The mousekeeper also made little toothbrush holders for us out of a bath towel for us. The mousekeeping staff was definately A++++.

We tip $5 a day for the two of us and are very neat. Our mousekeeper at the BWI was so wonderful (the room was spotless) so we tipped her $20 on the last day.

You guys are making me feel guilty. In past trips (Disney or non-Disney) I never even thought to tip mousekeeping. I've always tipped bag handlers, room service etc., but never the cleaning staff. The exception is Cruises where it has been explicitly stated that the cleaning staff works solely for tips. I'll make sure to tip nexct time!

Don't feel guilty. :) Unlike waiters, bartenders, valet parkers, etc., Disney housekeeping is not officially a "tipped" position. Any tips they do receive are "gravy." Tip if you want to and feel the service is worth it; if you don't or it isn't, don't sweat it.

Don't feel guilty. No one should be expected to tip. Tip only if you feel the service deserves it. I agree with you, I very seldom tip the maid service. It has to be exceptional service for a tip. That means clean sheets every day, clean towels, etc.
