How Much to Tip Housekeeping

How would we know the name of the person if we don't see them? Well, I will play it by ear when I get there in October. If I have some smaller bills, I will leave something each day. Again, I am only there from mid-day Friday to Sunday morning, and only two nights are involved, so it won't be a fortune I give them. If I don't have anything smaller, I will just leave the whole tip at the front desk when we check out.

I believe (at GCH at least) there is a small tent card in the room (maybe on the sink?) with the name of the regular mousekeeper.

Another reason to tip every day (rather than just once at the end) is that you might get a few extra-special touches if the mousekeeper knows you appreciate his/her work.

Yes! I did consider the special touches! Of course, there would only be one day for the mousekeeper to leave something and that would be Saturday, as we check in on Friday afternoon and check out on Sunday morning. But that is a possibility! I am not staying at GCH this time, but in October we will be at PPH. I have seen the card you are talking about, but I am not sure if I ever noticed a name on it! Now, I will be more attentive. At least I don't feel too bad in knowing that other folks were not tipping, either. I am not the only one who didn't think about it!:confused3

Hm I don't know how I feel about this. I enjoy tipping, especially when it's deserved. But to me housekeeping is their job, I wouldn't tip my bank teller as they're just doing their job. If I made a huge stinky mess or requested something special then I would tip. But to just do a routine bed making and wipe of the bathroom I don't think that's tip worthy IMO. But I'm only stating my opinion, I'm not looking to be converted ;) Like I said though, if they go above and beyond and have to do something that is not routine I would tip.

Hi nutshell! I also tip a dollar a day person. I have my envelopes already decorated and filled when I get to disney. That way the night before when I am getting ready for the next day I just pull the envelope out and put it on the table. Just a reminder the staff won't take it if isn't marked for mousekeeping. Have a great time

Yours is a valid opinion. I was considering that viewpoint, too. I wondered if it was expected or necessary to leave a tip, and it is quite interesting to hear the different input about whether or not to do it, when to do it, how much, etc. Something to ponder! I wasn't even the one who started the thread but I think I am the most informed by the various feedback!
