How much to tip housekeeping and how often?

I know I normally give the valet a minimum of 2 and a max of 5 or 6 - but what about housekeeping? Do any of you tip daily? Every other day? and how much?

We tip daily. We tend to increase it through our stay, since we get messier as the days go by.

Usually $1.00 per person, so that would be $3.00 for us for the first day, then the 3rd day, we up it to $4.00 and then the 5th or 6th day, $5.00.

I don't know if that's generous or not, but our housekeeper hugged me before we checked out last trip. She was a little hispanic lady and she was so cute and said she would miss us. She did a very nice job the entire time.

In my experience, it's important to tip every day. You won't necessarily have the same housekeeping staff each day, so tipping every day ensures that each member of staff gets the proper share of the tip.

We generally tip $1 per person per day. A little more if we ran late and left a big mess behind, and a little less if we were extra careful to clean up behind ourselves before leaving for the day.

I agree with $1.00 per day per person. be sure to put the money in an envelope clearly labeled mouse keeping in a very open conspicuous spot.

Just a quick note, the envelope should be left on the bed (I usually leave it on a pillow). I was told this when I left an envelope on the night table and it was NOT taken. I called the front desk and inquired and they told me that all tips should be left on the bed so there is no confusion of who its for. I always print out an envelope for each day and sort it out before I leave, then I put the envelopes in the safe and take one out every day (just because my memory on vacation is atrocious and I really don't like to stiff Mousekeeping since they have always done such a good job for me), the envelopes can be found in www.mouseforless.com.
