Ok,not sure if this is the correct forum, but: DD11 and I are going to WDw and DCL in October for 6 days.
Our dogs are going to doggie daycare and boarding, so they are covered.
We have a gp this year so dd's step sister to be offered her services to watch the gp.
She is very responsible so that is not even a concern.
How much to pay for the 6 days of GP sitting? SHe would obviously feed and give fresh water with one of those days cleaning out his home. TIA

How old is the person who is doing the work? About the same age as your daughter?

I would think $5/day would be fine, especially for someone who is 11.

I will add - I have never had a GP, so I've not had to contract out for this service.

I used to give my neighbors about $25 for a week, it was a teenage girl and then my other neighbor's the same too. I felt bad because the one family said Skippy bit them once. I also bought them a little something from the world too. Nothing expensive, like the lollipops or chocolate candy etc.

It kind of depends on the girl's age. If she is older and has to drive to your house, then you might want to give her more than if she gets there on her bike or walks there, etc. As the former owner of a number of GP's, I would say $5 a day is sufficient because there really isn't much involved with feeding it each day and giving it fresh water. Changing the GP's home will be the biggest chore and that only has to be done once during your time away. Will she give it some attention each day? They are very social animals as you probably know. It would be nice if she could spend a little time with it each day, talk to it, pet it, etc. so when you get home you'll have a happy piggie! :) Have a great trip!

I have 2 rabbits I have to leave behind and I board them with their vet for $10.30/day for both, since they can't be seperated, because they are a bonded pair, so $5/day sounds reasonable to me.

We left our GP with friends and family. Who watched them at their house for free. They enjoyed having them there to play with.
We brought them home a small gift.

The girl is 14 and she and Patches have met, so that is good. And she-the girl-love to hold him and talk to him.
We will be taking Patches to my exdh's house, but it won't be too much of a drive.
But thanks to all of you, I thought around 20-25 or so was a good range, but this is a first for me.

I've recruited a child to babysit our hamster next summer while we are on vacation. Of course, a hamster is less work than a guinea pig -- being smaller, they make less mess; and if you ignore the ham for a whole day, it's not really the end of the world. And this particular child is so excited that I suspect he would be willing to pay me to keep the hamster.

I"m planning to take the hamster to his house (so no travel is necessary), and I'll leave plenty of food for the hamster (so he won't need to provide anything). I'm planning to pay $25 for two weeks.

$5 a day! :scared1: I'm going to start moonlighting as a guinea pig sitter.

My kids always by the sitters a nice gift from wherever they have traveled. The kids that watch them seem to enjoy the gifts.

I have to take our piggy to the vet when we go out of town and I pay around $10 a day- same as a cat. Piggies require quite a bit more work then cats or dogs. They have to be played with, they need fresh fruits and veggies, unlimited hay and of course pellets and water. They also don't like to be in drafty areas. You need to have a sitter that knows to watch for all those things.

Because of all that I can't imagine paying less then $5 a day. I would also bring her a gift.

My rabbits require that same attention, but I usually take some of their toys and they are just fine with them, although, I think the girls there have a good time with them. But since both of them share an enclosure, they only charge me the price for 1.

Not the same type of care, but I have a macaw parrot that my neighbors' son comes over and takes care of, if my mom and I are both gone. I always buy a big tray of fresh fruit and mix up a big pasta salad with lots of vegetables in it. I keep both of these in the fridge for him to feed to the parrot every day, along with his dried fruits, nuts, and pellets. He comes over twice a day to just change his water and two food dishes (no cage cleaning involved). He talks to him, but has instrutions to never get him out of his cage (Jonah is a big bird and doesn't always handle strangers well and I'm afraid a 12 y/o may not be able to get him back in his cage, if he decides to be stubborn:rotfl:). The kid can change his food and water from outside the cage and never has to open the parrot's door. I also make sure I have some snacks sitting on the table and in the fridge with a note for the kid to help himself. Anyway, I pay him $100.00 for the week and bring both him and his little brother back a souvineer from WDW (t shirt for him and a toy for his little brother). Every time I see the kid he asks me when he can take care of Jonah again. lol

I am paying my niece $25.00 a day. But she has to drive over and I have a few more animals than a guinea pig. I have three rabbits, two guinea pigs, a dog and one hamster. And since she is driving and coming over three times a day just for the dog I think $25.00 is a great price. I sure I will tip her in the end and buy her something nice on my trip.
