How much to pay a teen baby sitter?

Anyone use a local teen or family friend teen to baby sit? If yes, what do you pay them? By the hour or one set price?

I'm not talking a daily sitter. Just a once an occasion when you and SO go out. And not particularly babies. DS is 12, DD is 6.

What's a fair rate?

We pay our neighbor or my 15yo cousin $7.50/hour.

I pay $6/hr and I have one child. We're in a small town in the midwest -- it may vary by region.

ETA: I remember my first babysitting job in the 70's -- I was 11 years old, I watched 5 kids and I got paid 75-cents an hour! How times have changed. None of that would fly in 2009.

I remember I used to make a whopping $1 per hour when I babysat the neighbors kids. And if I babysat 4.5 hours, she'd only pay me $4!!

And that included helping her kids with their homework and giving them a bath before bed.

Average here is $10 an hour, but that can be adjusted. I told my gf to pay dd12 only $6 an hour, because it didn't involve feeding them, getting them to bed, and the kids are 6 and 8. I've never paid less than $8.

Well I get paid $9-$7 depending on the age range of the children and how many I have that day.

When I was a first time babysitter I only got about $5 an hour I was still learning so I got paid less.

Good luck on deciding on a price I would say for your 2 children $7 an hour would be just fine, there older so they don’t require as much work as say a toddlers or an infant.

Well my daughter is 11(almost 12) and is babysitting. She gets $10 an hour for 2 kids.

My DD is 15 and she makes $8 -$10 an hour babysitting.

When my children were little, I always tried to pay more then the other neighbors did. I wanted the babysitter to want to babysit for us...because we paid her more.
