Hi everyone,
My nephew who lives in TX (I live in CT) is graduating from college this month. We can't go down for the graduation ceremony as it is on a Friday. I would like to send him a monetary gift, but I don't know how much to send, any advise?
Thanks,
Jenny

Duh I missed the college part......when my niece graduated we gave her $250.00

It depends on how much you have to spend. In this economy with money being tight for many folks, this might make a difference.

I myself would probably send $50. Not sure where I came up with the figure. It just sounds like a good amount:thumbsup2!! I would also consider a little more if I could afford it.

We gave our nieces and nephews $50 for high school graduation and $100 for college.

Go for an amount that you can afford. You might want to consider an amount that you could afford to give to each of your nieces and nephews when they graduate.

Personally, I'd go for $100. But if that is too much for your budget, then $50 is good.

With many nieces and nephews, we give $50 for high school and $100 for college (so far no one has finished graduate school:))

It depends on where he is graduating from. Rice? Send him a Kindle if he doesn't already have one. Baylor? Give him a trip to Vegas. SMU? If he can overpay that much, he doesn't need your money. UT? A sympathy card. A&M? $500 would be nice, but he'll probably be earning so much soon that it won't really matter.

To add: I only have 1 niece and no nephews on my side, so there are no others to compare notes ;) .

We decided we'll give all the nieces and nephews $100 for high school graduation, but haven't gotten to the point where we need to think about college graduation.

I might actually go with a gift at that point. I think with a college education they might not need the cash quite so badly.

While a gift is great, many kids graduating from college really need cash to help kick-off their grown up lives... Things like first and last month's rent for a post-college apartment, professional clothes for that first real job, etc...

I really don't consider them kids at that point. They're adults and can support themselves, most have at least part-time jobs, and most all ready have apartments. They have the tools to finance their own lives. :rotfl: I'm not kicking-off their grown up lives. I do that when I give them the $100 for high school graduation.

And I'm not talking about giving them a bottle of wine or a Danielle Steel book. It would be something nice, maybe something they could use in their chosen field. We'll see when the time comes.
