:goodvibes My DH loves the rum in Nassau. It's the only reason we are getting off the boat.:)

Any recent travelers know how much they paid for a large bottle of rum?

I bought a small bottle and it was only around $6.00. The rum cakes, had I known how little they cost, I would have brought more cash ashore with me, and bought some to take home as gifts for family members. They were around $4 or $5 dollars each.

Nat, sorry I don't know the answer to your question but I was wondering where can I find the rum cake you're talking about ? They sounds delicious and I'd like to try to get them when I visit in January. Is the place far from the port ? Thanks !

I bought a liter of Cruzan banana rum on the ship and it was under $9.00. Liters on Nassau will run you about the same. Our first trip I brought home a huge liter of coconut rum. Rum cakes on Nassau were about $30/6 pack or $7.95 each. We bought them at the rum cake store. You can find them everywhere but we went directly to the company. Most places take Visa but check with your credit card company for fees.

We bought ours at the Tortuga (sp?) Rum Shop just a few blocks from port. On the ship, included with your navigator upon boarding there is a map of that shopping district and the Rum shop is on there.

You can get rum cakes at Tortuga, but you can also buy them right on the ship if you don't want to disembark in Nassau. However, one good things about Tortuga is they also sell delicious flavored rum teas.

hummm..... RUM tea!!!

the rum cakes you can even buy on-line. But it seems like the only place you can buy the rum is on the island.
My DH loves the coconut and pineapple rum!!!

I don't really want to bring anything but what we need to Nassau. We'll leave all the credit cards and unneeded cash on board.

The rum teas are very hard to find elsewhere too. I actually discovered them through a friend who had gotten them in Nassau and couldn't find any other way to get them...I picked up a bunch for her, and she gave me some to try for myself. They have flavors like rum banana, rum coconut, etc. and they are sooooooo good.

Well I guess I need more money then I thought. :goodvibes
I bet the coconut is AWESOME!

Now I have to get off the ship next month. I was in the Tortuga shop twice this past summer and didn't see them.

Here's the website for the Tortuga Rum importer for the US: http://www.geminispiritswine.com/tortuga.asp I would contact them to see if the rums are carried in your area.

Here is the Tortuga website: http://www.tortugarumcakes.com/

You can also buy the rum cakes at the Orlando airport.

I'll be checking into the teas next week so I will post if they still have 'em at Tortuga.

I bought the Tortuga Rum Cakes on my last cruise (for the first time!) as gifts (and some for myself!) after sampling them at the duty free shop in Cozumel or Caymen. Yum! Now I have vowed that they will be part of my cruising tradition on future cruises!:goodvibes

Anyhoo....I priced them at various ports and ended up buying them the last night on the ship. I don't remember a price difference, but if there was, it was very, very negligible - because I am very, very cheap! ;)

If you buy the tower sampler of little cakes, it can take up a bit of room in your cabin - buying them on the last night right on the ship worked well for me!:thumbsup2

I've seen the cakes... but we want the Rum and now the Rum Tea!!! :thumbsup2

Save the trouble of buying Rum Cakes on your vacation and bringing them home!

On Grand Cayman we tasted cakes and rum at the Tortuga Rum stores - a must do. Wew loved the cream rum and another one that came in a very tall unusual bottle. NOTE: On our 9-5-09 cruise we were reminded you can't bring food ashore from DCL or liquor aboard DCL from Grand Cayman.

If you see a Tortuga Rum flavor you want in the duty free shop aboard DCL, buy it FAST! We thought about it too long and our favorite flavors were sold out. The others we got instead were awesome too!

If you buy duty free onboard when do you get it? I think I remember hearing that it is delivered to your state room on the morning you disembark. Is that right?
