How much $$ to bring for Rum & Rum Cake

If you buy duty free onboard when do you get it? I think I remember hearing that it is delivered to your state room on the morning you disembark. Is that right?

You get the liquor at the end of the cruise (I THINK they just let us bring it to our room when we purchased very, very late on the last night - so maybe if it's past midnite?). For none-liquor purchases (like cakes) I don't know if they hold them or not; it would be nice if they do!

Someone mentioned the sampler of cakes on Nassua coming out to $7 or so a little cake. It was closer to $4-6/cake on board and at other ports.:thumbsup2

I'll be checking into the teas next week so I will post if they still have 'em at Tortuga.

Inquiring minds want to know....NO, make that NEED to know.... did you find the rum tea?!? :confused3

Yes yes yes! :goodvibes There is a huge bag sitting on my kitchen table right now as my friend who is addicted to it had me pick up six boxes each of her two favorite flavors. I also got some for myself. I'll take a pic. if I can figure out what is wrong with my camera, but they had rum & banana, rum & pineapple, rum & coconut and rum & vanilla and I think it was around $7 per box. It is in the Tortuga store...if you don't see it, just ask. The display is fairly big although you can pass over it if you're not looking for it because the rum cakes tend to draw people away.

:worship: Thank you SO MUCH for this info. I will definately look &/or ask about it next month. I'm so looking forward to trying several flavors.
Have to ask....what flavors does your friend like the best?
Rum cake sample and tea, what could be better reason to get off the ship in Nassau then for that?!? :rotfl2:

My friend had me pick up six boxes each of rum/banana and rum/pineapple. For myself I got rum/banana and rum/coconut. They had a couple of other flavors too but I don't remember what they were because they didn't involve rum.

The Tortuga store in Nassau sold the individual small rum cakes for 6/$30 or $5.99 each.
We picked up 3 because we didn't have a choice of which flavors of rum cakes we could get in the 6 pk.
I didn't even think to look at the rums! It's a good thing that we rebooked onboard- and the shop isn't far at all! It sounded farther than it actually was when we came ashore in Nassau.

Have fun!

Dang it...this thread made me break into my stash of rum cakes...it was so good

The Tortuga store is prob going to be the only reason that we get off the ship on our next cruise. I LOVE the Vanilla rum and my likes the Mango and Pineapple flavors...I will def have to try the tea next time too

Does anyone know where I can buy Ole Nassau rum? I didn't see it on the list of liquors available to purchase onboard and I can't find a link to their store in Nassau. A friend is keeping our dog during our cruise and has asked for a bottle of this rum as payment.

I read a trip report that said they were a little cheaper on board the ship and they did not have to fight the crowds. :confused3 My first cruise though so I am just going by what I read.

I've been looking since we left the Tortuga Rum Cake Factory two years ago and haven't found a better deal than their variety pack that we bought for $30. It came in a convenient case and everything! I don't remember them selling them on the ship....but then again, it's been two years. I kick myself all the time for not buying more of those---they are very small, but an AWESOME gift to bring back to the neighbors, dog sitter, inlaws, etc!!

We recently found out on a trip back from Europe that glass bottles full of liquor don't always travel well- risk of breaking, being stolen, etc- so just be aware! The rum cakes are safer! ;) Now, rum tea.......I'll be looking for that next time though!

dumb question but...

for someone who doesn't drink (does not like the taste of alcohol) would I like these rum cakes? (can you taste the booze in them?)

At the Tortuga rum cake factory they have out samples so you can try one. Yes you can taste the rum since they actually pour rum over the cake after it's baked.

Coffee am.com has the small rum cakes for $4.99. The cheapest you may find state side. This April,I will look for the teas.

Found plenty of tea on the shelf in the Tortuga Rum Cake shop last Friday. They also have it in the Nassau terminal and it's $7.50 a box there.
