How much time needed to get to Chef Mickey's from MK?

Not sure if this is the right forum for this question, but if I'm spending the day at MK and have a 5:05 p.m. reservation at CM's, what time should I plan to be at the monorail to get to CR and be on time for my reservation? We plan on just returning to MK after we eat (and this will be in mid-June). Thanks!

It might be easier to walk from MK to the CR and Chef Mickey's. We stayed at CR for a few days last December and found the walk really easy to do both to and from MK. In fact, it was easier to walk there than it was to take the monorail. I didn't time any of our walks, but if I had to guess I would say if you walked really slow (like my gang does sometimes) it would take 15 minutes (or less) from leaving the MK to Chef Mickey's.

I use the Monorail, any chance to ride it works for me!!

I would leave MK by 4:00 -4:30. If the park is closing there will be a massive amount of people leaving which can delay your exit.

While walking is a good idea, this may be our only opportunity to ride the monorail. We're not park-hopping and we're not staying at a monorail resort and I really want the kids to experience that (this is their first trip!). I'm almost tempted to park at the TTC (vs. taking the bus from the hotel) so they arrive at the MK by monorail, but I thought at the very least we could arrive at CM's by monorail -- just a little added "magic" -- I'm sure you all know what I mean. :goodvibes

The park has EMH that night so I don't think there will be any mass exodus to leave the park around 4:00/4:30.

You can always ride the monorail back around to MK after dinner too. It will be a longer ride with stops at the TTC, Poly, and GF. But you would definitely get a fill of the monorail that way.

Walk over - it will be quicker - and then ride it back to t he MK. You can always stay on and ride the complete loop - even as many times as you want!

The walk from the Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary is quick and pleasant. My family usually makes it in about 10 minutes.

If you want to enjoy the monorail loop, I suggest trying it on the way to dinner, as opposed to on the way back. It's a longer ride that way, so you see more, and you'll want to exercise a bit after digging into the buffet at Chef Mickey's!

Enjoy!

The walk takes about 10 minutes, although if you took the Resort Monorail the Contemporary is the next stop when leaving the Magic Kingdom and you are let off on the 4th floor where Chef Mickey's is located.

Since you appear new to the dis and not knowing if you're familiar with MK, these times quoted are from the ticket turnstiles. If you are in the park you'll need to allow 20 min. to walk the length of mainstreet. If you're in the rear of MK you'll need to allow wait/boarding/riding time for the train but it will let you off at the end of mainstreet above the turnstiles. So, what I'm saying is that if it were me, I'd be looking to leave the park about an hour before my ADR to allow travel time.

I know what you mean and I would not trade the 45 min. hassle of parking at the TTC (this is required only when you don't have a bus option while staying onsite) for some brief monorail magic. I would reserve that monorail ride to get to and from CM in the middle of the afternoon and not try it at opening or closing with everyone else from the TTC.

I consider the TTC to be a traffic engineering nightmare and one that you will not "miss" but may only be convinced having experienced it. I consider it to be a tragic beginning and ending to an otherwise wonderful day.

Others on here would tell you how wonderful going thru pay parking lines (although onsite guests don't have to pay they still have to wait in line), parking in throngs, waiting for a tram (to take you to the monorail), waiting in line for the monorail, riding the rail, then getting in line at a ticket turnstile, only to do it all again in reverse when leaving is. But, I simply don't agree and only do it when absolutely necessary (staying off site). Even Disney realized the ridiculous set up and hasn't copied this traffic nightmare for ANY of it's subsequent parks. Sorry for the rant but you can see I really don't enjoy TTC and think you would prefer the bus dropping you off near the MK ticket turnstiles and saving the monorail for your afternoon enjoyment.

Yes, I am knew to DIS, but not WDW -- I've been over 20 times, this just happens to be the first time with kids (and my first time in 10 years). I'm already figuring in where we might happen to be in the park around that time and how long it takes to get from 'point x' to the monorail, which is why I was more concerned with how long it would take to get to CM's from the monorail. I do need my memory refreshed, though, on the which direction the monorail goes. So, is CR the first stop from MK (or vice-versa)? In other words, which way is the "long way" around? And Shocker, you're probably right -- while in theory the arrival at MK by tram/monorail sounds enticing, the TTC would so no be worth it on the way back!

In my previous reply I said when taking the Resort Monorail from the Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary that the Contemporary is the next stop. In fact here is a link to a video from Youtube of the Resort Monorail going in that direction, so you can see exactly how it will look like.

Now when going from the Contemporary to the Magic Kingdom the Resort Monorail stops at the TTC, Polynesinan and Grand Floridian before getting there, however I say it's faster by walking back to the Magic Kingdom.

Walk u will be walking enough :) be at the monorail about 4:30 the CR is the 1st stop you will have enough time to walk around the inside of the CR and look around!

Yes, I know you said that, but a PP (jdisnut) said:

So, that confused me and I needed clarification. I appreciate your help, CR Resort Fan 4 Life!
