Looking a few flight options....all have us changing plans in either Ohare, Milwaukee, or Atlanda...Some give us only about 45 minutes while some give us upwards of 3 hours inbetween flights....How much time do we really need to comfortably change planes in a busy larger airport? There will be 7 of us, including 3 kids.

I prefer about 90 minutes at ORD and ATL. Probably could do with a little less in MKE. You can maybe do 60 minutes in ORD if you are on AA. I wouldn't recommend it on UA.

Personally I would never book a connecting flight with less than 1 hour layover and preferably 1 1/2 hour. And would only accept 1 hour if I was familiar with the airport and gate arrangements. I'd rather have to wait around for a half hour or more than stress out over whether I will miss my connecting flight and all the hassle that will cause. Especially with young children. You'll be waiting around a lot longer if you miss your flight.

mke's airport is no big deal to navigate, but I still think an hour to be safe.

I too will never book a layover of less than 60 minutes, and I prefer 90 minutes. Chicago and Atlanta are big, spread out airports.
Good Luck

If you're staying on the same airline in Milwaukee, you can probably do less than an hour for a layover. Airtran is in one terminal so it is only a few minutes to get from one plane to another. Same for Delta and Frontier. Their planes are all in the same terminals so you don't have far to go from one flight to another. If you are changing airlines though, that means going through security again and you'd need at least an hour.

We have been fine with 45 in MKE. Actually we were fine with 22 minutes once on Midwest - but the luggage wasn't!!!!! :lmao:

My thoughts exactly!:thumbsup2

ORD, no less than 90 minutes.

ATL, 2 hours. That airport is a monster.

MKE, 60 minutes should be plenty.
